Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Class A CDL Lead Support Driver to support transportation operations across multiple locations. This is a traveling position responsible for hauling food waste using end-dump trailers while providing coverage and operational support where needed.
The Lead Support Driver serves as a critical member of the transportation team, filling in for drivers who are out on PTO, vacation, sick leave, FMLA leave, training assignments, open routes, or other operational needs. This position requires flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to travel to support company operations across multiple regions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles with end-dump trailers hauling food waste and organic materials.
- Provide route coverage for drivers who are absent due to PTO, vacation, sick leave, FMLA, training, vacancies, or other operational needs.
- Travel to various locations to ensure uninterrupted service and customer support.
- Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.
- Complete required paperwork, electronic logs, inspection reports, and transportation documentation accurately and timely.
- Ensure loads are transported safely and in compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, environmental, and company regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, operations personnel, maintenance teams, and customers.
- Assist with driver onboarding, route familiarization, and operational support as needed.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while representing the company at customer locations and operational sites.
- Work safely in all weather conditions and varying environmental conditions.
Travel Requirements
- Extensive travel is required.
- Travel is typically weekly and may occasionally require weekend travel.
- Transportation will be provided through either:
- Company-paid rental vehicle
- Company-paid airfare when applicable.
- Company-paid hotel accommodations are provided for overnight stays.
- Drivers receive a $60 per night per diem while traveling.
- No sleeper truck operation required.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL required.
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
- End-dump trailer experience preferred.
- Experience hauling food waste, organics, agricultural products, waste, or bulk materials preferred.
- Clean driving record and strong safety history.
- Ability to travel frequently and adapt to changing assignments.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb in and out of trucks and trailers multiple times daily.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to perform inspections and basic operational checks.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
