Scope:

The role will lead Heartland’s current Training and Development Center for both operations and the distribution center to include New Employee Orientation (NEO), Annual Compliance Training, certifications, professional development, develop equipment/process specific training materials and SOPs where appropriate and to develop and deploy our new technical training. In this role, a key objective is to develop and deploy a new technical training program for the manufacturing operations where manufacturing equipment is installed in the updated training center and where this equipment is used for both training and finished product production. The position reports to the VP of Operations, Quality and Supply Chain and dotted line reporting to the Sr. Director of Operations.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Sr. Manager of training to partner with leadership in all departments to determine what knowledge, skills and abilities are required for each role within Heartland and will be responsible for designing and leading a multi-faceted training and development program focusing on technical skills and technical execution in our operations.
  • Ensure course training materials are developed and implemented to reflect current operating processes and procedures to include operator and skill trades training and certifications.
  • Set strategic vision for the new technical training area and implement program to include establishing GMP compliant training area, installing equipment, compliant with plant food safety and quality requirements, aligned with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Select the ideal training methods or activities for a particular purpose and audience - online, video enhanced, virtual reality enabled, role playing, mentoring, on the-job training, professional development classes, etc.
  • Market and promote training opportunities to employees in a compelling way that provides all necessary information regarding career path benefits
  • Conduct regular, whole-organization needs assessments, identifying skills or knowledge gaps that need addressing
  • Assist in the development of clear job descriptions and career pathing for hourly and technical professional positions.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of and adherence to compliance and legal standards and regulatory processes relative to technical and procedural education delivery and materials.
  • Serve as a strong and resourceful leader; be able to craft creative solutions with changing business needs and resources.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or other technical field and 5 or more years of relevant experience in a Manufacturing setting. Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Successfully implemented adult learning programs in a manufacturing environment including establishing machine operator, trades, quality and supervisor training programs
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with ability to work independently and with all levels of the organization within a face-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized with and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience in using Learning Management Systems such as Cornerstone.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to physically perform the functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Must be able to work seated using a computer and phone for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, such as daily overtime and an occasional weekend
  • Must possess visual acuity to document company records
  • Continuous walking throughout plant and distribution center.
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds
