Client Controller, Fractional CFO Services in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at CounselFi
Job Description
CounselFi is a Finance as a Service (FaaS) B-Corp helping small businesses across a range of industries with strategic finance advice. We specialize in construction, trades, and growing small businesses, providing bookkeeping, accounting, FP&A, tax, and outsourced CFO advisory, so our clients get a full finance department without building one in-house. We are committed to overhauling the back-office experience for small business owners, putting strategy at the forefront of decision-making.
We’re seeking a Client Controller who wants to work directly with business owners and grow into a fractional CFO role. You’ll own the financial picture for a portfolio of clients: making sure the books are right, explaining what the numbers mean, and helping owners make better decisions. This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with our founder and CEO while making a meaningful impact on growing businesses that need strategic financial guidance.

- Strong command of GAAP, month-end close, and financial statement preparation
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel; Sage and Xero experience preferred
- Natural ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-accountants
- Self-starter mentality with the ability to manage multiple clients independently while following structured processes

- Direct Mentorship: Work alongside and learn directly from our President, James Delaney, who brings deep experience scaling companies and building them for sustainable growth.
- A Clear Path to CFO: This role is built to grow. As you take ownership of client relationships and advisory work, you’ll move into a fractional CFO role leading your own engagements
- Meaningful Impact: Help business owners understand their numbers and make decisions that change the trajectory of their companies
- Variety: Exposure to a wide range of industries and business models
- Purpose-Driven Work: Join a B-Corp committed to positive business impact
