The Engineering Manager, Recording Platform will lead the development and evolution of a complex technical platform while supporting engineers’ growth and ensuring operational excellence. This role combines team leadership, technical guidance, and hands-on engineering contributions to deliver reliable and impactful user experiences.
- Lead and grow the engineering team responsible for desktop applications, recording experiences, mobile capabilities, and real-time audio and video infrastructure.
- Coach, mentor, and develop engineers while fostering technical ownership, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Establish technical direction and priorities for the recording platform, balancing user-facing improvements with long-term infrastructure investments.
- Improve platform reliability through enhanced observability, tooling, incident response processes, and operational best practices.
- Remain technically involved by contributing production code, supporting complex debugging efforts, reviewing architecture decisions, and exploring new technical approaches.
- Guide the adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows to improve engineering productivity while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Partner with Product, Design, SRE, and engineering leadership teams to define priorities, solve complex problems, and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Use customer feedback and support insights to influence product improvements and platform evolution.
- Drive initiatives around system scalability, performance, and reliability across multiple devices, operating systems, and integrations.
- Support future platform innovation, including deeper operating-system integrations, mobile enhancements, and intelligent on-device capabilities.
The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong software development background and a passion for building reliable systems and high-performing teams.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record delivering production software.
- 2+ years of experience managing and developing software engineering teams.
- Strong desire to remain technically hands-on and contribute directly to engineering challenges.
- Experience leading teams responsible for mission-critical or customer-facing systems.
- Demonstrated ability to improve system reliability, monitoring, scalability, and operational processes.
- Strong technical judgment when balancing product delivery, technical debt, user needs, and platform investments.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, establish direction, and drive alignment across multiple teams.
- Experience developing innovative AI-assisted engineering workflows, tools, or processes that improve development efficiency.
- Experience with systems where performance, latency, availability, or real-time behavior significantly impact user experience.
- Proven ability to hire, mentor, and grow engineers with diverse technical expertise.
- Excellent communication skills with engineers, product teams, leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Passion for creating both exceptional technology and a collaborative engineering culture.
Nice-to-have qualifications include:
- Experience building desktop applications, particularly with Electron.
- Background in real-time media systems, audio/video pipelines, WebRTC, or similar technologies.
- Experience supporting software across multiple operating systems, devices, and third-party integrations.
- Experience leading engineering teams through periods of rapid growth or major technical transformation.
