Director Of Program Design

This is a meaningful volunteer leadership opportunity for an experienced education or STEM professional passionate about expanding access to learning opportunities.
The role focuses on shaping impactful STEM enrichment programs designed to support underserved middle school students.

Accountabilities:

The Director of Program Design will provide strategic direction and operational leadership for the development of STEM outreach programs. This role involves guiding volunteer teams, ensuring educational quality, and building partnerships that strengthen program impact.

  • Lead, manage, and coach program design teams by providing guidance, resources, and support to volunteer contributors.
  • Collaborate with community and engagement teams to define program goals, learning objectives, content strategies, and delivery approaches.
  • Oversee the creation and improvement of interactive STEM educational programs for middle school students.
  • Review and evaluate curriculum, teaching approaches, and learning strategies to ensure programs meet established quality standards.
  • Develop and recommend curriculum guidelines, success metrics, and outcome-tracking processes to measure program effectiveness.
  • Support the preparation and training of college student coaches responsible for delivering outreach programs, including orientations, workshops, and ongoing guidance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with educational content providers and STEM-focused organizations to expand available program resources.
  • Monitor trends in STEM education and enrichment initiatives to identify opportunities for innovation and program improvement.
  • Provide expertise, recommendations, and strategic input to advance educational access and gender equity in STEM.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a background in education, STEM, program management, or related fields who is motivated by creating more equitable opportunities for students. Strong leadership, collaboration, and curriculum development skills are essential for success in this volunteer role.

  • Degree in education, STEM, management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing a function, department, program, or cross-functional team.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, or delivering STEM curriculum is highly valued.
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback to teams of volunteers.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse groups.
  • Interest in addressing gender and opportunity gaps within STEM education.
  • Willingness to contribute expertise, recommendations, and professional perspectives to support the mission.
  • Commitment to a minimum six-month volunteer engagement with approximately six flexible hours per week.
