Job Description

Position Title: Commercial Refrigeration Technician

Reports To: Supervisors / Director of Facilities

Department: Engineering

Shift: Varies

Role: The Commercial Refrigeration Technician performs a variety of skilled tasks, installation, repair and troubleshooting work involved with all aspects of buildings, facilities systems and equipment with an emphasis on refrigeration work. The list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Adheres to all Company, Safety and Department policies and procedures. Fosters teamwork and provides excellent guest service, anticipates guest needs to exceed guest expectations. Builds brand loyalty by living the JW Marriott Core Values.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Experience: High School Diploma or GED
    • Must have minimum (5-years) experience specializing in Refrigeration.
    • Must have journeyman or higher skillset for this position.
  • Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of all aspects of building maintenance and guest room maintenance.
    • Able to solve problems using trouble shooting skills.
    • Responsible for the safety of him/her self and others.
    • Knowledge of MSDS, Occupational hazards and applicable safety hazards.
    • Knowledge of basic methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work.
    • Ability to operate power tools.
    • Ability to communicate, read and write in English.
    • Ability to demonstrate outstanding guest service at all times both internal and external.
    • Ability to maintain work orders.
    • Ability to accomplish tasks within strict deadlines.
    • Ability to continually seek improvement in results.
    • Skill in diagnosing and repair of equipment utilized.
    • Must be able to order and maintain material par levels.
  • Preferred:
  1. Five years’ experience in a resort is preferred.

Required Work Cards needed:

  • Valid Nevada driver license
  • Valid EPA Certificate
  • Valid HVAC/R Certificate
  • OSHA 10

Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Maintains Safe and Compliant Work Environments
  • Ensures all refrigeration systems, building equipment, and related mechanical areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Follows all applicable Health Department, Fire Department, and building code regulations, and completes required documentation related to safety checks and compliance.
  • Performs Skilled Refrigeration Installation, Repair, and Maintenance
  • Installs, services, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide variety of commercial refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers/freezers, ice machines, reach‑ins, display cases, and HVAC/refrigeration combined systems. Uses diagnostic tools to identify issues, replace components, and verify proper system operation.
  • Conducts Preventive Maintenance (PM) on Refrigeration Equipment
  • Completes scheduled PM tasks such as inspecting coils, checking refrigerant levels, testing system performance, cleaning components, lubricating moving parts, tightening electrical connections, and verifying control settings to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Diagnoses and Resolves Mechanical, Electrical, and Refrigerant Issues
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting on compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, control boards, sensors, valves, electrical circuits, and refrigerant distribution systems. Uses meters, gauges, and computerized tools to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
  • Handles Refrigerant in Accordance with EPA and Safety Standards
  • Safely recovers, reclaims, charges, and disposes of refrigerants following EPA Section 608 guidelines. Maintains accurate refrigerant usage logs, prevents leaks, and ensures all work meets environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to Emergency and Service Calls
  • Provides prompt response to refrigeration failures or temperature‑critical issues, including after-hours or on-call rotations. Quickly stabilizes equipment to prevent product loss, safety risks, or operational impacts.
  • Interprets Technical Documents and System Blueprints
  • Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and equipment specifications to perform accurate installations and repairs.
  • Collaborates With Facility, Operations, and Safety Teams
  • Works closely with managers, contractors, and staff to ensure refrigeration systems support daily business needs. Communicates repair status, identifies risks, and recommends system upgrades or improvements.
  • Maintains Tools, Supplies, and Accurate Service Records
  • Ensures proper care of tools and equipment, requests needed parts, and keeps detailed records of maintenance, inspections, repairs, parts usage, and labor time in the CMMS or service ticketing system.
  • Supports General Building Maintenance as Needed
  • Assists with other facility systems—including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and general building operations—when refrigeration tasks are not required, ensuring overall facility functionality and safety.

Work is performed in a (type of location, i.e., office, kitchen, restaurant, casino, etc.) environment and in other locations throughout the property. Must be tolerant to varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination and air quality. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When on the casino floor, the noise level increases too loud. Additionally, smoking is permitted in casino areas consistent with Nevada state regulations, which are followed by the employer.

  • Ability to and comply with Policies and Procedures, Job Description, daily memorandums, chemical labels (MSDS) and other instructions.
