Job Description

Position Overview: Main point of contact with government entities within the California state and its local levels. Liaise with government entities that regularly influence business activities related to the telecommunications and broadband industry. Supports Network team in local resolution involving government barriers. Collaborate with industry groups to achieve business objectives at the local and state level.

Job Description:

Role and Responsibilities

  • Research and monitor regulatory activities within the California state and local levels that could affect the organization’s interests. Expand research within the regional level as needed.
  • Analyze legislation and relevant policy and make strategic recommendations to senior staff on engagement.
  • Develop and oversee local and state policy agendas and political compliance as warranted.
  • Oversee and manage engagement on legislation including testifying in support.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with members of state and local government entities, elected officials and stakeholders.
  • Engage with coalitions, trade associations, and stakeholders.
  • Draft and present legislative updates, as necessary.
  • Prepare materials and logistics for onsite and offsite events, as necessary.
  • Report escalations or concerns at the state level to Senior Director of Government Relations as needed.
  • Partner with Senior Director of Government Relations to expand strategy and business footprint objectives across states.
  • Provide occasional interaction to additional states such as Arizona and Nevada.
  • Develop written material in support of legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts.
  • Manage lobbyists and public affairs consultants.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ legislative experience.
  • Thorough understanding of the California legislative/budget process.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and prioritize time to meet deadlines.
  • Professional writing skills, including knowledge of legislative standards.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity and prior experience with Capitol Track ™ a plus.
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing.
