This role is responsible for protecting customers, payment channels, and organizational assets through proactive fraud detection and investigation.
You will analyze complex data, investigate suspicious activity, and identify patterns that may indicate emerging fraud risks.
The position combines hands-on casework with fraud monitoring, reporting, prevention, and control improvement.
You will collaborate with teams across the organization and build strong relationships to resolve investigations effectively.
The role also provides opportunities to influence fraud policies, procedures, and prevention strategies.
As a senior member of the function, you will contribute to team development, mentoring, and special projects.
This is an on-site position in Hauppauge, New York, designed for an experienced fraud professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Conduct detailed fraud investigations by analyzing data and information from multiple sources, identifying discrepancies, evaluating suspicious activity, and determining appropriate actions.
- Monitor fraud detection software, alerts, cases, metrics, and performance indicators to identify risks and support timely escalation and resolution.
- Document investigation findings, evidence, recommendations, potential losses, recoveries, and other relevant case information through clear and accurate reports.
- Identify emerging fraud trends and recommend strategies, controls, policies, and procedures designed to prevent future losses and strengthen fraud monitoring capabilities.
- Interview employees and gather information from relevant departments to resolve investigative questions and support case outcomes.
- Build collaborative relationships across departments and promote accountability, transparency, and effective communication in fraud prevention efforts.
- Support management with reporting on potential fraud, fraud losses, recoveries, trends, and other key performance indicators.
- Assist with the development and implementation of fraud monitoring policies, procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Take ownership of assigned special projects and independently resolve complex problems requiring detailed research, analysis, and sound judgment.
- Mentor and support colleagues through knowledge sharing and training when needed.
- Stay current on evolving fraud patterns, payment-channel risks, banking practices, and applicable regulatory developments.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of banking or risk management experience.
- At least 7 years of experience in e-commerce fraud prevention, fraud investigation, retail fraud prevention, or a closely related discipline.
- Advanced knowledge of banking and payment-channel operations, including checks, ACH, Merchant Capture, wire transfers, and related operating rules.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, investigative, and problem-solving abilities, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to independently investigate complex issues, exercise sound judgment, and make well-supported recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interview stakeholders and present findings clearly.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, along with the ability to quickly learn new fraud-monitoring and business systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with employees and leaders at different levels of an organization.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working independently while contributing effectively to a team environment.
- Preferred professional certifications include Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Anti-Fraud Specialist (CAFS), Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI), Certified AML and Fraud Professional (CAFP), or Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
- Previous experience mentoring colleagues, supporting fraud-control initiatives, or developing fraud-related procedures is an advantage.
- Annual salary range of $60,000–$70,000, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, education, training, certifications, and other relevant factors.
- Full-time, on-site position based at the organization’s headquarters in Hauppauge, Long Island, New York.
