Advisor, Career & Transfer - North Campus
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
- The Career and Transfer Advisor will provide professional support to students, alumni, and community members in their career exploration. The Advisor will assist in establishing partnerships with faculty, community groups, agencies, and employers to promote the skills and competencies of San Jacinto College students. The Advisor is to provide career and academic advising, registration assistance, and assistance in accessing and navigating institutional requirements and assessments.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides career advising to assist students in choosing a career pathway. Assist students in researching educational and career requirements.
- Provide advising, registration assistance, and assistance in accessing and navigating institutional requirements to current students.
- Provide individual assistance and group presentations related to transfer; communicate requirements of various university admission procedures and major requirements.
- Facilitate plans and assist the Coordinator with the organization of special activities and events including job fairs, transfer events, career events, employer panels, etc.
- Provide job search assistance to students, alumni, and community members by conducting resume critiques and mock interviews and assisting with the development of a job search plan.
- Supervise part-time student employees in Career and Transfer.
- Plan and host professional development and networking opportunities for student employees.
- Schedule, promote, and coordinate on-campus recruitment visits by employers.
Additional Job Functions:
- Represent the department at new student events and general informational sessions in classrooms.
- Assist with the graduation application process and commencement activities.
- Post and update departments’ social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and decision-making in all interactions with students, employers, college faculty, staff, administrators, and community members.
- Comprehend complex information and explain it to prospective and current students.
- Knowledge of career and job search trends.
- Proven track record of effectively interacting with a customers.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written language skills, presentation, and public relations skills.
- Detail-oriented, a self-starter, and a customer-friendly professional with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Team-player attitude, diplomacy, and flexibility to work outside of regular business hours as needed.
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Education and Experience:
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university required.
Required Experience:
- Excellent oral and written communications, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Must possess outstanding customer service skills and can work well with other staff members.
- Must possess personal computer literacy, experience with Excel, and good organizational skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience/training in presenting workshops and in creating promotional materials as well as project management and event planning.
- Banner software experience.

Salary Grade: 110
