Summary:
Vighter is recruiting Registered Nurses (RN) to provide patient care support in the Telemetry Inpatient Unit at the George E. Whalen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located at 500 Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City, UT. The Salt Lake City VA is rated as a complex medical facility, therefore provides care to Veterans locally and from surrounding states.
The RN is responsible for direct and/or supervised nursing care of hospitalized Veterans on an acute medical-surgical/telemetry unit.

Principle Accountabilities:
- Provide nursing services within the VA medical center and within the scope of practice for a variety of patient-centered specialties and ensure that all Joint Commission standards for care are met during performance of patient care.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and identify changes in patient condition.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process.
- Provide safe, evidence-based care to assigned patients.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, treatments, and nursing procedures according to VA policies.
- Provide continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring, recognize abnormal rhythms, and respond appropriately to rhythm changes.
- Maintain competency in telemetry monitoring and related equipment.
- Recognize deterioration in a patient's condition and initiate appropriate interventions/escalation.
- Coordinate care with physicians, hospitalists, LVNs/LPNs, nursing assistants, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Delegate appropriately and supervise care provided by other nursing personnel.
- Educate Veterans and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, self-management, and discharge planning.
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and telemetry findings accurately in the electronic health record.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and patient-safety initiatives.
- Maintain required competencies, mandatory education, and certifications.
- Promote Veteran-centered care, patient advocacy, safety, infection prevention, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, orientation, and knowledge-sharing to other staff as appropriate.

- Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have exceptional customer service skills.
- Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
- Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.
Education:
- Holds an Associate of Science degree from an NLN accredited college or university and holds a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any state.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited university is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience within the last three (3) years.
- Must have and maintain certification in Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:
- The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this key position supports 24/7/365 operations which may require work to be conducted in the day, at night, on weekends, and during holidays

Travel:
- As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day, must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
- Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
- Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
- Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
- Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
- Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
