Department Overview

This position serves as part of the OHSU Budgeting & Financial Planning team, which is responsible for providing guidance, management and oversight for complex financial information.

Function/Duties of Position

Institutional Strategic Financial Advisor

  • Provides strategic and analytical assessments on enterprise level joint ventures, reorganizations, and the remodel or design of future facilities.
  • Performs evaluation of strategy and business plan development for major initiatives; helps monitor these developments through statistical reporting.
  • Provides expertise in the development and evaluation of competitive strategies; identify and apply best practices for each project.
  • Coordinates and reviews work of other analysts to certify consistency and accuracy in financial data.
  • Attends and/or leads regular meetings with customers and key stakeholders to provide input and insight into key financial data elements, ensuring consistency across projects and departments.
  • Develops and coordinates presentations and written materials for executive leadership.
  • Advises leaders on financial matters including pro forma analysis of operational changes and proposed projects.
  • Supports key mission groups by analyzing complex financial data and creating, developing, and maintaining financial reports and dashboards for leadership.
  • Provides financial input in the development and continuous evaluation of short- and long-term strategic financial objectives and associated plans including but not limited to collective bargaining, long-term plan, institutional quarterly forecast, and mission-level budget targets.

Strategic Financial Consultant – Clinical Contracts

  • Financial Expert for Institution wide Clinical Program Contracts.
  • Act as a financial liaison between Healthcare, SOM and OCES on new contracting initiatives, perform value analysis and ROI to help drive decisions from executive leaders.
  • Develops, oversees and maintains key financial reporting and analysis tools for clinical contract reporting. Consults with key stakeholders to identify reporting issues, output needs and overall functional requirements.
  • Works with ITG to lead new business process implementations.
  • Create and Implement invoicing and account reconciling processes and tools for OHSU partnerships.
  • Train and develop Accounting and Financial Management staff across OHSU on standardized clinical contract processes.

Strategic Financial Consultant – Provider Productivity/Compensation

  • Provides strategic direction in development of Provider Productivity/Compensation tools and reporting for use across the institution.
  • Develops, reviews and updates SOP’s outlining expectations and timelines for departments/units to follow in utilizing Provider Productivity/Compensation tools.
  • Meets with departments/units to review accuracy of data within the Provider Productivity/Compensation tools.
  • Provides ongoing direction in development of standardized Provider Productivity Statements.
  • Routinely analyzes trends in Provider Productivity/Compensation, identifies and quantifies opportunities for improvements and escalates as needed.
  • Assists in forecasting processes based on output of Provider Productivity/Compensation and Productivity Statement tools.
  • Leads annual process of modeling and quantifying Faculty compensation benchmark movement for budget and long-term planning needs.
  • Serves as Clinical Finance Lead on OPP Compensation Committee.
  • Provides strategic and analytical assessments on business strategies to department/unit directors and division heads.
  • Makes recommendations on business strategy based on outcomes from financial performance measures or projections.

Strategic Financial Consultant – Human Resources

  • Financial subject matter expert to Human Resources department on collective bargaining, compensation strategy and planning, benefits strategy and planning, and management staffing decision impacts for integration into financial plans and presentation to executive leadership.
  • Financial Member on various Union/OHSU bargaining teams
  • Provides financial input in the development and continuous evaluation of short- and long-term strategic financial objectives and associated plans related HR and compensation across OHSU missions
  • Creates proof of concept dashboards and partners with ITG to implement into financial systems such as IBM Cognos TM1.
  • Performs complex ad hoc analysis as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 18 hours of accounting and/or finance courses from an accredited college or university plus 2 years of financial analysis experience. OR
  • Equivalent combination of experience where 2 years of business related experience will substitute for 1 year of education.
    • At least 9 hours of accounting and/or finance courses are REQUIRED.
  • At least five years’ experience in accounting or finance.

    • Masters of Business Administration or Finance may substitute for 2 years of experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced spreadsheet skills, including complex functions, formulas, and formatting.
  • Experience with relational databases.
  • Knowledge of accounting and/or financial principles.
  • Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and net present value analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial information in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Demonstrated ability to track large amounts of detail with accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead presentations, training, or facilitate meetings with a diverse group of participants.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA, MHA, MF, or other related graduate degree.
  • Prior Academic Health Center specific experience performing analysis related to operational improvements and business cases.

  • Experience with hospital/healthcare financial analysis and budgeting.
  • SQL Programming.
  • Experience using business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with budget systems.
  • Experience with Axiom financial software.

Additional Details

This position is hybrid remote, working standard business hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm PT). Candidates need to reside within 90 miles of OHSU’s Marquam Hill Campus, and be able during regular business hours to be on campus within 2 hours' notice.
