Department: Marketing & Communications
Reports To: Vice President of Marketing & Communications
Location: Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs (RICE), Atlanta, GA
Status: Full-Time, In-Person
Position Overview
RICE is seeking a dynamic and thoughtful Communications Specialist to lead both internal and external messaging that inspires, informs, and engages. Reporting directly to the VP of Marketing & Communications, this in-person role will shape how we connect with staff, stakeholders, partners, and the public. From newsletters and memos to talking points and community updates, this person is the steady hand behind RICE’s voice.
We’re looking for a stellar writer with sharp instincts, a love of storytelling, and the ability to make complex information clear and compelling. You must be fluent in Mailchimp, savvy with AI-assisted tools, and have a deep respect for RICE’s mission to empower Black entrepreneurs.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Communications
- Own and manage RICE’s internal messaging strategy across teams and audiences.
- Write and deliver weekly and monthly newsletters to staff, Stakeholders, and partners.
- Partner with HR, Stakeholder Success, and Programming teams to share key updates and opportunities.
- Help reduce communication clutter while keeping our internal ecosystem aligned and engaged.
External Communications
- Draft external announcements, email campaigns, press language, and executive messages.
- Collaborate on brand campaigns, event promotions, and donor-facing communications.
- Ensure all content is on-brand, audience-appropriate, and aligned with organizational priorities.
Mailchimp + Content Systems
- Design, write, and send segmented email communications using Mailchimp.
- Monitor open rates and other KPIs to refine strategy.
- Maintain lists and templates to reflect our voice and visual identity.
Storytelling + Editorial
- Craft compelling copy—from internal memos, to blogs, to campaign messages—with clarity and heart.
- Edit content for tone, grammar, and consistency across all touchpoints.
- Support presentations, talking points, SOPs, and executive communications.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5 years in communications, preferably in a nonprofit, startup, or mission-driven org.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or similar.
- Proven expertise in Mailchimp, with experience managing campaigns and lists.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Comfortable using project management tools (e.g., Monday.com).
- Understands how to use AI tools for efficiency, not as a replacement for originality.
- Collaborative, curious, and energized by purpose-driven work.
