About This Position
The Housing and Financial Literacy Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services and marketing homeownership programs that embodies EANDC’s mission by providing practical homeownership opportunities and increasing financial independence for the residents in the communities in which EANDC works. The Housing and Financial Literacy Counselor will work with clients to facilitate the process toward the attainment of established client goals. The Housing and Financial Literacy Counselor is an exempt full-time position under the supervision of the Manager of the Center for Homeownership who will provide housing and financial counseling and targeted outreach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide Individual Counseling sessions
• Provide Pre-purchase counseling in the areas of budgeting and credit counseling • Provide Foreclosure intervention counseling • Provide Rental counseling • Maintain client files with required intake and counseling documents • Negotiate with lenders/advocate for clients • Track client progression/document in Client Management System • Link clients with appropriate resources and social services
Maintain Client Files
• Assure customer confidentiality and protection through proper procedures and according to HUD guidelines • Retain physical files according to HUD guidelines
Assist with Education Classes
• Assist with class preparation • Teach classes as needed
Complete/Maintain Training Certifications
• Attend NeighborWorks Training Institute as needed • Attain HUD Housing Counselor Certification within 120 days • Maintain certifications with continuing education as required
Marketing and Outreach
• Provide general information about housing opportunities • Assist with community outreach and marketing to meet program goals • Raise awareness about critical housing topics such as predatory lending and fair housing • Work with local agencies to affirm fair housing
Assist with the Overall Operations of the Department
• Assist in establishing positive relationship with clients, partners and other housing counseling agencies • Participate in meetings and presentations
At EANDC we may require other duties that are not listed in the job description be performed as needed or requested by the Manager of Homeownership.

Education and Experience Requirements:
• Have or will be willing to attain HUD Housing Counseling Certification within 6 months of employment • Have or attain Foreclosure Counseling Certification throughNeighborWorks Rental counseling experience within one year of employment • 2+ years of social service or entry-level banking experience preferred • High-school diploma
Work Environment:
• Typically, work in an office setting. • May require travel to different sites. • May require occasional overtime as needed. • This is a full-time, on-site position, generally beginning at 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.
