Medical Lab Tech at St. Claire Regional Medical Center – Morehead, Kentucky

The Medical Laboratory Technician evaluates and performs an analysis. Provides information for patient diagnosis and treatment by performing laboratory tests, chemistry, hematology, toxicology, immunology, blood bank, and microbiology as defined by laboratory procedures and protocols.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Coordinates, performs and communicates pre-analytic functions, such as patient identification, sample collection, computer processing and receiving, electrocardiograms, drug screen collection, and point-of-care testing.
• Analyzes laboratory samples after completion of competency assessment.
• Performs, evaluates, and records quality control procedures.
• Reports laboratory results as defined by the patient’s clinical condition and laboratory policy for routine, one-hour turnaround, timed, and life-threatening reporting.
• Performs instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as needed and as defined by manufacturer’s and laboratory guidelines and utilizes appropriate backup procedures for laboratory procedure analysis until instrument repair is complete.
• Assigns laboratory charges and credits defined by laboratory policy, federal and state regulations, and fair billing practices including verification that covered proper diagnosis is obtained from the physician for laboratory testing and obtains Advanced Beneficiary Notice as necessary.

Education:
Associate Degree in Science required, Laboratory Science preferred

Experience:
Related experience preferred

Licensure/Certification:
Certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or must be registry eligible and obtain within one year in the position
