About This Position

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Assists the technologist in the assigned area of the laboratory, by completing non-technical tasks, such as pouring off of specimens for analysis, disposal of old specimens, putting away stock, and other duties that may be needed.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Responsible for specimen preparation, identification of specimen and request, separation of samples, cells from plasma, and work organization
    • Prepare samples for mail out to reference laboratories
    • Assist technologists in daily work where and when possible
    • Answers telephone promptly and professionally
    • Participates in laboratory process improvement activities
    • Counts, rotates and puts away stock.
    • Removes bio-hazard waste boxes from the department, to the correct area for pick up and disposal.
    • Assists in clerical area when needed.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • High school diploma or GED equivalency
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • N/A
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • This job operates in a professional medical laboratory environment.
    • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Regularly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting)
    • Frequently required to walk and move about
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices
    • Regularly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
