Laboratory Aide at King's Daughters

JOB SUMMARY
- Assists the technologist in the assigned area of the laboratory, by completing non-technical tasks, such as pouring off of specimens for analysis, disposal of old specimens, putting away stock, and other duties that may be needed.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
- Responsible for specimen preparation, identification of specimen and request, separation of samples, cells from plasma, and work organization
- Prepare samples for mail out to reference laboratories
- Assist technologists in daily work where and when possible
- Answers telephone promptly and professionally
- Participates in laboratory process improvement activities
- Counts, rotates and puts away stock.
- Removes bio-hazard waste boxes from the department, to the correct area for pick up and disposal.
- Assists in clerical area when needed.
EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum requirement:
  - High school diploma or GED equivalency
- Preferred qualifications:
  - N/A
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- This job operates in a professional medical laboratory environment.
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts
- Regularly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting)
- Frequently required to walk and move about
- Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment
- Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices
- Regularly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
