  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Collection Specialist is responsible for accurately and efficiently preparing and submitting claims to assigned insurance carriers, entitlement programs, and governmental components of our Accounts Receivable to ensure maximum reimbursement, timely billing, and timely collection of hospital and clinic accounts pertaining to designated sections of accounts. Ensures that all statements and forms are completed timely, accurately and comprehensively. Responsible for working closely with the Lead Collection Specialist and Director of Patient Financial Services to identify and make any changes in our billing workflows and procedures to ensure that the hospital and clinics remain in compliance with insurance carrier, entitlement, and governmental programs. Effectively manages and assists team members of designated section of accounts in an effort to expedite the collection of accounts. Responsible for meeting all collection goals as established for the designated section of accounts. Responsible for assisting the Lead Collection Specialist to maintain and manage the technical and professional claims submission components of our computer system and ensuring that all charges are correctly posting to the correct billing form in a manner that ensures accuracy and compliance with all insurance carriers and entitlement programs. Responsible for training team members to properly operate the electronic billing software and to submit accurate and comprehensive claims. Works closely, courteously, and professionally with all team members in an effort teach and assist them to properly manage their assigned accounts and expedite the billing and collection process including understanding and properly addressing accounts that appear on the Heat Tracker and assigned ATB. Acts as an excellent role model providing effective and professional leadership to team members and the office staff in coordination with the Lead Collection Specialist and Director Patient Financial Services. Responsibilities also include assisting your team members to understand and accurately calculate adjustments of assigned accounts and ensuring that insurance carriers are reimbursing the hospital accurately. Additional responsibilities include accepting patient payments, answering verbal or written inquiries, updating patient and account information, accurately processing adjustments and refunds, ensuring that all accounts reside in the proper financial class at all times and completing reports as directed.   • JOB QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education:
      • High School diploma or equivalent and/or technical school with courses in related field

    • Job Knowledge and Skills:
      • Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, typing 40 wpm, and knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding. Experience in hospital billing preferred.
