GENERAL SUMMARY
- The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for assisting and supporting the Finance Department in financial statement preparation, cost report preparation, reconciliations, financial analysis and other accounting / financial reporting functions as needed. Work requires demonstrated ability to think critically, do financial analysis, communicate financial information effectively with others internal and external to the health system and organize workload to meet established priorities and special projects as assigned. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs complicated accounting functions related to the preparation of journal entries, financial reports, general ledger accounts and cost reporting.
- Works collaboratively with supervisors and external auditors on the preparation of requested information.
- Prepares required tax returns or other regulatory filings or required external reports for the health system.
- Effectively communicates financial information and plans to facilitate informed decision making.
- Assists and supports department leadership with special projects as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- CPA preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of general accounting functions at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other closely related field.
- Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility in order to plan and implement at a level normally acquired through five to seven years of progressively more responsible related work experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with medical billing / terminology preferred.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain a variety of internal and external working relationships.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills necessary to gather, interpret, and verify accuracy of data.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel and other large scale general ledger systems.
