About the role

As an Accounting Clerk at Bethel University you’ll play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations.

In this role, you’ll work across accounting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable, handling everything from account reconciliations and financial transactions to deposits, invoice processing, journal entries, and month-end and year-end close activities. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the University and have the opportunity to use your attention to detail and financial expertise to make a meaningful contribution where your work directly supports life-changing student experiences. This is an in-person position at our Bethel Anderson Center office in Arden Hills, MN. The starting range for for this role is $22.75 to $23.50 per hour.

What you'll do

Accounting Functions – 60%

Perform account reconciliations and resolve any discrepanciesProcess invoices, expense reports, and other financial transactionsPrepare and submit reports to outside agencies/auditors as requiredAssist in month-end and year-end closing processesHR postings and reconciliationsAssist with other accounting tasks as needed

Accounts Receivable Functions – 15%

Execute the deposit and accurate recording of checks received by the UniversityRetrieve and coordinate the posting of activity associated with bank accountsAssist with other accounts receivable tasks as needed

Accounts Payable Functions – 25%

Expense adjustments and JE preparationsAccounts Payable review and approvalsWork with the appropriate teams to send and record information related to unclaimed propertyGeneral AP accounting support

Qualifications

Education: High school education with related post-high school training/coursework

Experience: 1+ years of related accounting or bookkeeping experience

2+ years of related experience, preferred

Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Banner Finance), preferred

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the Google Suite. Must be a proven self-starter and detail-oriented.Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.Ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple duties.Able to work independently and as part of a team.Must handle sensitive, confidential information in a professional manner.Ability to work effectively with different departments.Working knowledge of a Student Information System, preferred.Working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting, preferred.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop and/or laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Expected Hours of Work:

Typically, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with the expectation to work specific schedules and hours as identified and communicated by management. This is a 40 hour per week, 12 months per year position.
