Description:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting a positive patient experience and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Serving as a key member of the clinical team, the CMA helps patients feel welcomed and supported throughout their visit while assisting providers in providing efficient and effective care. Through patient intake, clinical support, care coordination, and communication, the CMA helps ensure that patient needs are addressed and care is delivered in a safe and timely manner. This position contributes to positive patient outcomes, continuity of care, and the overall success of the practice through a commitment to professionalism, compassion, and service excellence.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and escort them to examination rooms.
  • Prepare office notes/templates for upcoming patient appointments.
  • Accurately measure and document vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, respirations, height, and weight, in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) following established protocols.
  • Conduct a brief review of interim health history relevant to the provider’s examination.
  • Notify the provider of any significant health changes, hospitalizations, or urgent concerns.
  • Retrieve and organize necessary reports, hospital records, or other documentation to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Assists patients in completing required forms, such as health questionnaires and medical histories, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Inform the provider when the patient is ready for examination.
  • Provide assistance to providers during examinations and procedures as needed.
  • Answer telephone calls and assist with patient inquiries within the scope of knowledge and practice guidelines.
  • Schedule patient appointments, tests, and referrals according to practice guidelines.
  • Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA regulations to maintain patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Monitor inventory levels, order, and restock clinical supplies to ensure seamless operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked examination rooms.
  • Perform additional tasks or services as directed by the provider or administrator to support the team and ensure high-quality patient care.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $18.71 - $21.52 Hourly. Starting pay within the posted range is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, education, and qualifications. The range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification in the state of Virginia.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment if not currently certified.
  • Comfortable using EKG machines, sphygmomanometers, and basic clinical tools.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and patient relations skills.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA guidelines with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of patient information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of medical assistant experience working in a medical office, clinic, or healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at a desk for extended periods (sitting), up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods, up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday
