Description:

Position Overview

Good Clean Dog is a fast-growing startup on a mission to disrupt the dog-grooming industry by creating a better experience for dogs, the people who love them, and the professionals who care for them. The company is expanding its retail footprint and is seeking a highly organized, resourceful Project Manager to oversee the development and ongoing management of our store locations.

This position will manage new stores from design and pre-construction through opening, while also overseeing the ongoing physical and administrative needs of existing locations, including utilities, insurance, maintenance, vendors, and landlord coordination.

We currently operate one location, have two additional stores preparing to begin construction, and anticipate continued expansion in the coming years. This is an opportunity to take ownership of our store development process and build the systems needed to support a growing portfolio.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage new store projects from design and pre-construction through construction, opening, and closeout.
  • Coordinate architects, general contractors, landlords, vendors, signage, fixtures, utilities, and other project partners.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, bids, contracts, invoices, change orders, and other project documentation.
  • Manage and participate in all required permitting, licensing, inspection, and approval processes to ensure projects remain compliant and on schedule.
  • Conduct site visits, construction meetings, and punch-list inspections to ensure projects remain on schedule, on budget, and meet quality expectations.
  • Oversee ongoing property needs for existing stores, including utilities, insurance requirements, repairs and maintenance, service providers, and landlord/property management issues.
  • Maintain organized, digital records for each location, including plans, contracts, permits, warranties, insurance documentation, utility accounts, and vendor information.
  • Build and improve processes, checklists, and vendor relationships to efficiently support a growing portfolio of store locations.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues and provide leadership with regular updates on project status, budgets, timelines, and risks.

What Success Looks Like

  • Store projects are completed on time, on budget, and to expected quality standards.
  • Permitting, inspections, utilities, and other pre-opening requirements are completed without avoidable delays.
  • Existing locations are well maintained, with property, vendor, insurance, and utility issues resolved quickly and efficiently.
  • Leadership has clear visibility into project status, budgets, risks, and upcoming decisions.
  • Processes, records, and vendor relationships are well organized and scalable as the store portfolio grows.
  • Problems are anticipated early, ownership is clear, and issues are driven through to resolution.
Requirements:

Skills & Attributes

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Resourceful, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of unfamiliar problems.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage budgets and evaluate costs.
  • Effective communicator who can manage contractors, vendors, landlords, and internal stakeholders.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a growing organization.

Experience & Education

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in construction project management, retail development, facilities/property management, or a related field.
  • Experience managing general contractors, architects, vendors, budgets, schedules, and project documentation.
  • Working knowledge of commercial construction; retail or multi-location experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Ability to travel to store locations and construction sites as needed.

Additional Information

  • Candidates who are invited to participate in the final round will be required to undergo a short assessment to determine cultural and professional fit.
  • The selected candidate will be required to sign an employment agreement, including an NDA and non-compete / non-solicitation clause.

Compensation & Work Structure

  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Salary: $70,000–$100,000 annually, based on experience. Initially structured as base plus merit-based annual bonus (KPIs to be defined within the first 120 days of employment start date).
  • Benefits: Health insurance and flexible PTO
  • Work structure: Hybrid remote and in-office in St. Louis, with regular in-person work at Good Clean Dog’s headquarters in Brentwood, Missouri
