Everyone Is a Caregiver

At UMass Memorial Health, everyone is a caregiver – regardless of their title or responsibilities. Exceptional patient care, academic excellence and leading-edge research make UMass Memorial the premier health system of Central Massachusetts, and a place where we can help you build the career you deserve. We are more than 20,000 employees, working together as one health system in a relentless pursuit of healing for our patients, community and each other. And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day.

Location: Uxbridge, MA

Facility: UMass Memorial Health
Department: Tri River Family Health Center
Schedule: Full time

The UMass Synergy Service is an interdisciplinary ambulatory consultation service focused on the care of patients with complex needs related to pain, substance use, and addiction. We work in partnership with primary care clinicians and other outpatient providers, combining direct patient care with clinical guidance, care coordination, and practical support for the clinicians who know their patients best.

Our philosophy is that caring for patients with complex pain and addiction requires a team. Rather than replacing the patient's existing care team, Synergy works alongside outpatient clinicians, helping them develop the clinical tools, practical strategies, and confidence needed to navigate challenging situations and provide thoughtful, evidence-based care.

Synergy serves patients across the lifespan, from pediatric through geriatric populations. We value a multimodal and individualized approach to care, incorporating pharmacologic, behavioral, rehabilitative, and complementary treatment strategies when appropriate.

Key Highlights:

We are looking for an APP who is collaborative, curious, flexible, and comfortable caring for patients whose needs may not fit neatly into traditional clinical categories. The ideal candidate will enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary team and will be interested in helping build and shape an evolving ambulatory service.

Particular qualities and interests include:
  • Experience caring for patients with substance use disorders.
  • Interest in developing expertise in the management of acute and chronic pain, including buprenorphine and other aspects of opioid management.
  • A willingness to approach complex clinical situations thoughtfully and creatively.
  • Enthusiasm for working within an interdisciplinary team to care for patients with substance use disorders, chronic pain, or both.
  • Interest in learning about multimodal and complementary approaches to pain management, including modalities such as acupuncture and osteopathic manipulative treatment.
  • Comfort with, or willingness to develop comfort with, administration of long-acting injectable medications used in addiction treatment, including Vivitrol and Sublocade.
  • A commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and to reducing stigma surrounding pain, substance use, and addiction.

Because Synergy is a developing service, we particularly value candidates who are adaptable, interested in learning, and excited about helping create new approaches to ambulatory pain and addiction care.

Qualifications:
  • A Masters degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Eligible or current Massachusetts license, with national certification (ANCC, AANP, NCCPA, as applicable)
  • Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.

Top Tier Benefits to Reflect Your Values and Needs.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off with 11 paid holidays
  • Practice/CME allowance
  • Pension plan with additional retirement options available
  • Paid family and medical leave; short-term and long-term disability programs
  • Tuition reimbursement, student loan forgiveness support, and PSLF‑eligible employment
  • Concierge services for relocation
  • Organization-wide commitment to formal Clinician Wellness Program
