Job Description

Content Editor, SEO & GEO

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Content Editor, SEO & GEO based in the United States.

This is an opportunity for an experienced editor to shape high-quality digital content across SEO, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), PR, content marketing, reputation management, and brand campaigns. You will transform AI-generated drafts into accurate, engaging, publication-ready content that delivers genuine value to readers. The role combines editorial judgment, research, fact-checking, search optimization, and emerging AI practices. You’ll work across multiple industries, brands, audiences, and content formats while collaborating with SEO, GEO, PR, and account teams. A key part of the role is knowing when AI-generated content needs refinement, deeper research, or a complete rewrite. You’ll join a fast-paced, high-accountability environment where strong thinking, editorial craft, and ownership are highly valued.

Accountabilities
  • Edit, rewrite, and enhance AI-generated content for client websites, third-party publications, blogs, resources, thought leadership pieces, and marketing campaigns.
  • Transform generic or rough AI output into clear, natural, useful, engaging, and publication-ready content.
  • Research unfamiliar subjects and verify facts, statistics, claims, sources, and citations to ensure content is accurate and credible.
  • Identify AI hallucinations, unsupported claims, weak sources, questionable citations, repetitive language, and formulaic writing.
  • Make editorial decisions that go beyond proofreading, including restructuring sections, rewriting passages, or removing content that does not meet quality standards.
  • Improve content structure, organization, readability, flow, headings, titles, and overall user experience.
  • Optimize content around keywords, topics, search intent, and emerging AI-driven search behaviors.
  • Structure information so it can be easily understood by readers, search engines, and generative AI platforms.
  • Adapt content to different brands, industries, audiences, tones of voice, and positioning requirements.
  • Review and optimize elements such as meta descriptions, internal and external links, anchor text, and headings when required.
  • Identify language, claims, or messaging that could create factual, reputational, compliance, or brand risks.
  • Collaborate closely with SEO, GEO, PR, and account teams to ensure content supports broader marketing and business objectives.
  • Manage multiple assignments, client accounts, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining consistently high editorial standards.
  • Stay informed about emerging GEO, AEO, AI search, and content optimization practices and apply relevant approaches to editorial work.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional experience in writing, editing, journalism, content marketing, digital marketing, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent editing, rewriting, proofreading, grammar, and editorial judgment skills.
  • Strong research and fact-checking capabilities, with the ability to quickly assess the credibility and relevance of sources.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing or improving AI-generated content and the ability to recognize when AI output requires substantial editorial intervention.
  • Working knowledge of SEO principles, keyword optimization, search intent, and digital content best practices.
  • Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar subjects and produce or refine content across multiple industries.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard for factual accuracy, clarity, usefulness, and quality.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Experience using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences and brands.
  • A specific college degree is not required; relevant experience, strong editorial skills, research ability, and sound judgment are more important.
  • Preferred experience in an agency environment or with SEO-focused content.
  • Preferred familiarity with GEO, AEO, AI search, PR, earned media, reputation management, or brand management.
  • Preferred experience editing content for third-party publications.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other content management systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Google Search Console, Semrush, Ahrefs, Moz, or similar SEO platforms is beneficial.
  • Basic knowledge of schema markup and familiarity with AP style are advantageous.
  • GEO experience is not required; training can be provided for candidates with strong editorial judgment, research skills, and an ability to identify weak content.
Benefits
  • 100% remote work from anywhere in the United States.
  • Flexible remote environment designed to support collaboration without requiring a commute.
  • Choice of three Anthem Blue Cross PPO medical plans, plus dental and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with a company match increasing to 3% by 2027.
  • Paid vacation and sick time.
  • 11 company holidays plus a floating holiday.
  • Summer Fridays to support additional work-life balance.
  • Paid maternity leave for eligible employees.
  • Career development opportunities within a fast-growing communications and marketing environment.
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial culture with opportunities to take ownership and develop new skills.
  • Opportunity to work at the intersection of editorial craft, SEO, AI, GEO, PR, and digital marketing.
