Position SummarySouthend Pharmacy is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and results-driven Pharmacy Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our pharmacy dispensing department within our 503A compounding pharmacy. This leadership position is responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient dispensing operations while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, workflow optimization, and employee development.
The Pharmacy Operations Manager will provide operational leadership for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff while partnering closely with Compounding Operations, Clinical Services, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Compliance, Customer Service, Procurement, and Executive Leadership to ensure seamless execution of pharmacy operations.
This individual will play a critical role in driving operational excellence, implementing continuous process improvements, maintaining compliance with all applicable pharmacy regulations, and fostering a collaborative, patient-focused culture throughout the organization.
Essential ResponsibilitiesPharmacy Operations Leadership- Direct and oversee all daily pharmacy dispensing operations to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient processing of patient-specific compounded prescriptions.
- Manage pharmacy workflow, staffing, scheduling, workload distribution, and operational priorities to maximize productivity and service levels.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and regulatory requirements governing pharmacy operations.
- Identify operational challenges and proactively implement workflow improvements that increase efficiency, quality, and patient safety.
- Monitor key operational metrics including turnaround times, productivity, quality indicators, patient satisfaction, and dispensing accuracy.
- Develop operational strategies that support organizational growth while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
- Ensure continuous compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations including:
- Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
- FDA regulations applicable to 503A pharmacies
- DEA requirements
- HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules
- USP <795>, USP <797>, and USP <800> standards
- Support internal audits, external inspections, accreditation activities, and regulatory surveys.
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely pharmacy documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Investigate medication errors, quality events, and operational incidents while implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Promote a culture centered on patient safety, quality improvement, and continuous compliance.
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy support staff.
- Conduct hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, and employee development activities.
- Foster employee engagement, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Ensure staff remain current on regulatory requirements, SOP updates, compliance initiatives, and operational best practices.
- Build a high-performing team focused on operational excellence and exceptional patient care.
- Oversee prescription verification and dispensing activities to ensure clinical appropriateness, medication accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
- Review prescriptions for completeness, appropriateness, potential drug interactions, allergies, dosing accuracy, and therapeutic concerns.
- Collaborate closely with prescribers regarding prescription clarifications, therapy recommendations, and patient-specific concerns.
- Ensure accurate patient counseling and appropriate pharmacist intervention when necessary.
- Monitor dispensing quality to minimize medication errors and improve patient outcomes.

- Participate in strategic initiatives, new service implementations, workflow redesign projects, and organizational growth initiatives.
- Oversee inventory management for medications, compounded preparations, controlled substances, supplies, and pharmacy equipment.
- Collaborate with Procurement to ensure appropriate inventory levels while minimizing waste and medication shortages.
- Monitor medication expiration dates, storage requirements, recalls, and inventory reconciliation.
- Ensure compliance with inventory control procedures and controlled substance regulations.
- Evaluate existing workflows and implement Lean process improvements where appropriate.
- Analyze operational performance data to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and quality.
- Recommend technology enhancements, automation opportunities, and operational best practices.
- Participate in organizational initiatives focused on operational excellence and patient experience.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Active, unrestricted Texas Pharmacist license in good standing.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive pharmacy experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of pharmacy leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
- Experience working within a 503A compounding pharmacy environment.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy dispensing operations and workflow management.
- Thorough understanding of:
- USP <795>
- USP <797>
- USP <800>
- FDA regulations
- DEA regulations
- HIPAA
- Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and operational improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of medication safety, pharmacy quality standards, and patient-centered care.
- Experience conducting employee coaching, performance management, and staff development.
- Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, dispensing software, electronic health records (EHR), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Additional experience supporting 503B outsourcing facilities or FDA-regulated environments.
- Board Certification (BCPS, BCSCP, or other applicable pharmacy specialty certification).
- Experience with pharmacy automation technologies and workflow optimization.
- Experience leading pharmacy operational expansions, process redesigns, or scaling initiatives.
- Experience with pharmacy inventory management systems and ERP platforms.
- Working knowledge of NetSuite, PioneerRx, ScriptPro, FrameworkLTC, QS/1, or comparable pharmacy software.
- Experience supporting accreditation surveys or regulatory inspections.
