About the role
The Vice President, Corporate Controller is a senior leader responsible for the integrity, scalability, and continued evolution of OneEnergy's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control environment. Reporting to the CFO, this role owns the monthly close, external and internal financial reporting, and technical accounting for the corporate parent company as well as a growing portfolio of project-level entities, including the specialized accounting considerations unique to solar development, construction, tax equity financing, and long-term asset ownership.
This role works strategically and collaboratively across company-wide functional teams including Finance, Systems, Delivery, Development, and Legal. The VP Controller leads and develops the corporate accounting team and serves as a key partner to the CFO, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors.
Success in this role requires the ability to build alignment across functions, advocate for foundational improvements, lead through change, and establish credibility through both technical expertise and strong interpersonal leadership. The ideal candidate will combine deep accounting knowledge with business acumen, emotional intelligence, and a genuine commitment to OneEnergy's mission.
What you'll do
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and all external and internal financial reporting for OneEnergy Inc. and its project-level subsidiaries and special-purpose entities (SPEs). Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting
- Lead the annual financial statement audit as well as project-level, lender-, or tax-equity-investor-required audits; serve as primary liaison to external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders on financial reporting
- Refine and maintain strong internal controls and processes surrounding financial reporting and accounting across corporate and project-level entities
- Recruit, mentor, and scale the accounting team, building capacity ahead of continued company growth. Proactively identify where the accounting function needs to evolve to keep pace with rapid company growth, and partner with senior leadership to secure the resources and support needed to execute
- Drive continuous improvement of accounting systems, close-process efficiency, reporting automation, and scalable business process. Drive accounting-function culture, quality standards, and change management across the team
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax filings in coordination with outside tax advisors and monitor emerging accounting guidance relevant to the solar and broader renewable energy industry
- Serve as a key cross-functional voice and partner on the accounting and systems implications of new entities, contracts, and transactions, helping set the company up for operational success ahead of business changes
- Maintain accounting system, banking, and payroll vendor relationships, including managing the software platform for each
- Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance. Ensure timely and accurate reporting for all legal LLCs by state. Lead and ensure timely annual audit and tax deadlines are met within all states where we hold economic nexus
- Oversee processing of bi-monthly payroll through third-party provider and administration of 401k submissions
Qualifications
- 10+ years of related accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years management experience. Big 4 public accounting experience preferred
- Active CPA license required
- Strong GAAP accounting knowledge and understanding, with proven ability to apply complex GAAP rules
- Passion for utilizing technology to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of department’s work product
- Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software implementations and managing relationships with software vendors. Advanced knowledge of accounting software, ideally Intaact
- Superior leadership and people management experience with proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members
- Strong track record of leading change management across teams and systems
- Demonstrated ability to set direction, influence stakeholders, and drive cross-functional alignment on complex, ambiguous initiatives
- Skilled at meeting tight deadlines and prioritizing critical objectives while maintaining high accuracy and organization
- Highly motivated, results-oriented, self-starter, quick learner, and possesses a strong sense of ownership
- Demonstrated experience with multi-entity consolidations and complex partnership/joint-venture accounting
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of integrity and organizational capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Exceptional organizational skills and project management skills, with the ability to track multiple cross-functional, strategic initiatives to completion amid competing deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to thrive and manage change by establishing clear prioritization frameworks to sequence competing demands across close, audit, systems, and special projects in a high-growth environment
- Proven experience leading and motivating remote or geographically distributed teams
- Experience in the renewable energy industry is a big plus; real estate development or construction project cost accounting is also a plus
- Demonstrated qualities of integrity, credibility, and fiduciary responsibility

Compensation
OneEnergy’s compensation packages are dependent on an array of factors including, but not limited to skillsets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other organizational needs. This position pays an annual salary of $245,000 - $345,000, depending on experience. We provide generous Paid Time Off (six weeks/year) and an impactful Volunteer Time Off Program.
