Working primarily with cases involving Attending Physician Statements, you will apply medical knowledge, underwriting guidelines, and analytical judgment to assess mortality risk accurately. In this role, you will collaborate closely with agents and internal teams to ensure timely, transparent, and customer-focused decision-making. You will also contribute to process improvements, training initiatives, and cross-functional projects that enhance underwriting efficiency. Accountabilities

n this role, you will be responsible for evaluating life insurance applications and making informed underwriting decisions based on medical and non-medical risk assessment, while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and strong service quality.

  • Review and assess life insurance applications up to defined risk thresholds, including cases involving Attending Physician Statements
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, medical knowledge, and analytical judgment to classify mortality risk and determine appropriate decisions
  • Recommend outcomes such as approvals, substandard ratings, declines, or requests for additional information
  • Communicate underwriting decisions, requirements, and case updates to agents and internal stakeholders in a clear and professional manner
  • Maintain strong knowledge of underwriting systems, product rules, and medical terminology to support accurate decision-making
  • Participate in training, workflow enhancements, and cross-functional initiatives to improve underwriting processes and customer experience
Requirements

This role requires solid experience in life underwriting, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to interpret medical and non-medical information to assess risk effectively.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience
  • 3+ years of life underwriting experience with strong understanding of mortality risk assessment
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and ability to evaluate medical impairments
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in complex case evaluation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with agents and internal teams
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to balance accuracy, speed, and service quality
  • Experience with Attending Physician Statements and complex underwriting cases preferred
  • Familiarity with underwriting systems, reinsurance concepts, and automated decision tools is a plus
  • Exposure to workflow improvement initiatives or cross-functional projects is an advantage
