JOB OVERVIEW

The Dishwasher is an essential member of the My Neighbor Felix culinary team and plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, organized, safe, and efficient kitchen operation. Under the direction of restaurant leadership, the Dishwasher is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, organizing, and properly storing dishes, cookware, utensils, glassware, kitchen equipment, and service items while supporting food safety, sanitation, and operational standards throughout the restaurant. This role contributes directly to the success of the culinary team by ensuring kitchen staff have the clean equipment and work environment necessary to deliver exceptional food quality and guest experiences. The Dishwasher is expected to demonstrate urgency, reliability, teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment and utilize approved cleaning and sanitizing procedures to properly clean, sanitize, dry, and store dishes, cookware, utensils, glassware, serving equipment, and kitchen tools.
  • Maintain a continuous supply of clean kitchen equipment and service ware by prioritizing dishwashing responsibilities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Properly inspect cleaned items to ensure they meet Company cleanliness and sanitation standards before returning them to service.
  • Organize, store, and maintain all clean dishes, cookware, utensils, and equipment in designated storage areas while protecting Company property from unnecessary damage or breakage.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, three-compartment sinks, dish machine, floors, drains, shelving, and surrounding work areas throughout each shift.
  • Safely operate and maintain dishwashing equipment while promptly reporting equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, or safety hazards to restaurant leadership.
  • Remove trash, recycling, cardboard, grease containers, and other waste materials in accordance with Company procedures and local health and sanitation regulations.
  • Sweep, mop, squeegee, scrub, and sanitize kitchen floors, walls, mats, storage areas, walk-in coolers, and other assigned back-of-house areas to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, rotating, and properly storing deliveries and kitchen supplies as directed by restaurant leadership.
  • Restock cleaning supplies, chemicals, paper products, and other operational items while notifying management when inventory requires replenishment.
  • Follow all Company food safety, sanitation, chemical handling, allergen awareness, personal hygiene, and workplace safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
  • Safely handle broken glass, knives, kitchen equipment, and hazardous materials while following established safety procedures.
  • Support culinary team members by assisting with general kitchen organization, transporting supplies, maintaining cleanliness of workstations, and completing additional non-cooking support tasks as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with culinary leadership regarding operational needs, sanitation concerns, equipment issues, inventory shortages, or safety hazards.
  • Complete opening, running, and closing cleaning responsibilities in accordance with Company procedures and daily cleaning schedules.
  • Attend training sessions, pre-shift meetings, and departmental meetings; retain and apply current food safety standards, sanitation procedures, workplace safety requirements, and Company policies.
  • Protect Company confidential information, including recipes, operational procedures, pricing information, vendor information, and proprietary business practices.
  • Present a clean, professional appearance in the complete approved uniform while demonstrating respectful, professional, and cooperative conduct with guests, coworkers, vendors, and leadership.
  • Perform other duties and support other back-of-house positions as assigned based on business volume and operational needs.
  • Consistently maintain compliance with all Company food safety, sanitation, allergen awareness, recipe execution, and quality standards.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • Previous restaurant, dishwashing, custodial, warehouse, food service, or hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and work collaboratively with managers and team members.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, established procedures, and Company policies.
  • Basic understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, and workplace safety principles, or the ability to learn and consistently apply Company standards.
  • Ability to safely operate commercial dishwashing equipment and properly handle cleaning chemicals after training.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require.
  • Must obtain and maintain any licenses, permits, certifications, or training required by applicable law or Company policy.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous restaurant, dishwashing, food service, custodial, warehouse, manufacturing, or hospitality experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment is preferred.
  • Experience following sanitation, cleanliness, and workplace safety standards is preferred.
  • Experience operating commercial dishwashing equipment is a plus but not required.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, and food safety principles, or the ability to learn and consistently apply Company standards.
  • Basic understanding of proper handling, cleaning, and storage of dishes, cookware, utensils, kitchen equipment, and service items.
  • Knowledge of safe workplace practices, including proper lifting techniques, chemical handling, slip and fall prevention, and equipment safety, or the ability to learn such practices.
  • Ability to understand and follow Company policies, operational procedures, cleaning schedules, and sanitation standards.
  • Basic understanding of the importance of cleanliness, organization, teamwork, and urgency within a high-volume restaurant environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding Company operations, recipes, business practices, and other proprietary information.
  • Knowledge of applicable health, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements, or the ability to successfully complete Company-provided training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

EMPLOYMENT EXPECTATIONS

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and follow established call-off and scheduling procedures.
  • Accurately record all time worked. Working off the clock is prohibited, and overtime requires advance authorization while remaining payable when worked.
  • Comply with the My Neighbor Felix Employee Handbook, all training materials, Company directives, safety rules, dress and appearance standards, anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, confidentiality obligations, and all applicable laws.
  • Immediately report workplace injuries, unsafe conditions, suspected harassment or discrimination, wage concerns, or other policy violations through the appropriate reporting channels.
  • Remain free from impairment while working, on Company premises, or representing the Company.
  • Follow all Company recipes, preparation standards, food safety procedures, and sanitation requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
  • Consistently maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation.
  • Properly use and care for Company equipment.
  • Demonstrate urgency while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Support other culinary team members and restaurant departments as business needs require.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Hourly Wage: USD $19.29 per hour - $22.00 per hour

Classification: Non-Exempt; Non Tipped position

Actual starting compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, demonstrated skills, internal equity, and business needs.
