Position Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily production operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety within the manufacturing environment. This role supervises operators such as die cutters, press operators, machine operators, utilities personnel, and assistants/packers while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Production Operations & Planning

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production of labels.
  • Develop and manage work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet output and delivery goals.
  • Monitor daily production performance and adjust resources as needed to ensure targets are achieved

Quality & Process Control

  • Inspect materials, products, and equipment to identify defects or malfunctions.
  • Monitor gauges, dials, and production indicators to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and motivate team members to achieve performance expectations.
  • Conduct training on equipment operation, safety procedures, and work standards.
  • Address employee concerns, conflicts, and performance issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with other supervisors and departments to ensure seamless operations across shifts and functions.
  • Communicate production goals, expectations, and performance feedback clearly and effectively.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by identifying and correcting unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Reporting & Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of employee attendance, hours worked, and production data.
  • Analyze work orders, schedules, and reports to determine production requirements and performance.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on production output, efficiency, and costs.

Safety

  • Maintain a safe work environment with zero recordable incidents (TRIR goal).
  • Monitor and reduce near-misses and safety violations.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with safety training and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions.

Quality

  • Achieve and maintain targeted first pass yield and defect rate goals.
  • Minimize customer complaints and internal quality issues.
  • Ensure adherence to product specifications and quality standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality.

Waste

  • Reduce material waste and scrap rates in line with company targets.
  • Monitor and improve material utilization and efficiency.
  • Identify root causes of waste and implement corrective actions.
  • Support cost-saving initiatives through waste reduction efforts.

Turnover

  • Maintain employee turnover within acceptable company benchmarks.
  • Improve employee retention through engagement, training, and development.
  • Track and address absenteeism and attendance trends.
  • Foster a positive work environment to support team stability and morale.

Experience:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment required, preferably within printing, converting, or paper/label production.
  • 3-5+ years of supervisory or lead experience required.
  • Hands-on experience with production equipment such as die cutters, presses, or similar machinery.
  • Demonstrated experience in production planning, scheduling, and workflow coordination.
  • Proven ability to monitor and improve key performance metrics such as efficiency, quality, and waste/reject rates.
  • Experience with quality control processes and troubleshooting equipment or process issues.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing setting (OSHA knowledge preferred).
  • Experience using production tracking systems, ERP systems, or manufacturing software is a plus.
  • Strong background in employee training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Associate degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Business Management, or a related field preferred.

· Bachelor’s degree in operations management, Engineering, or a related discipline is a plus.

· Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal degree requirements.

· Technical certifications in manufacturing, Lean/Six Sigma, or safety (OSHA) are beneficial.

Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and a reliable personal vehicle to complete occasional local errands.
