About the role
GEL Engineering, LLC is seeking a motivated individual to join our team of survey professionals, and this job opening is based out of our Charleston, SC office. As a member of the Survey Group, the Survey Technician is responsible for the collection of surveying data needed to complete different types of survey work assignments for a variety of projects. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with a can-do spirit and willingness to work hard as an individual contributor, as well as part of a team, to achieve shared success.
What you'll do
- Execute all field work to meet specified GEL-quality standards and methods required by the project-specific tasks.
- Collect, input, edit, and interpret field data, and complete necessary checklists and forms in both hard copy and electronic systems.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to design and analyze land, transportation, and water infrastructure projects.
- Meet timelines for delivery of all assigned work products in accordance with mutually agreed upon project schedules.
- Conduct routine tasks independently.
- Ensure all instrumentation and equipment are calibrated and maintained.
- Drive company trucks and keep them clean and orderly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in land surveying preferred
- High School Diploma required
- Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and with the use and care of survey tools and other survey field equipment
- Possess high ethical standards and support/demonstrate company core values
- 50 lbs. lifting requirement, ability to transport equipment across rugged terrain
- Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Skilled with Microsoft Office 365 applications including: Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean Motor Vehicle Record

Working Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed both in the office and out in the field. Projects may be completed at commercial, government, and industrial client’s sites. Overnight travel is expected not to exceed 20%.
