Job Description
The Youth Development Professional supports the supervision, engagement, and safety of children participating in before and after school care programs. This role helps create a positive, inclusive, and enriching environment through recreational activities, homework support, and social-emotional development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children during program hours.
- Assist with planning, organizing, and leading age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, sports, and educational projects.
- Support students with homework and academic enrichment activities.
- Maintain positive behavior management practices and encourage respectful interactions among participants.
- Assist with attendance tracking, snack distribution, and program setup and cleanup.
- Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, and school staff as needed.
- Follow all program policies, safety procedures, and child supervision guidelines.
- Report incidents, concerns, or behavioral issues to the Program Director or Site Coordinator.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, recreation, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, or recreational setting preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of children and families.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Successful completion of required background checks.
- Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and participate in recreational activities.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Experience with youth programming and group activities.
- Conflict resolution and behavior management skills.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for working with school-age children.
- Ability to foster a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.
