Job Description
The Town of Needham is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the full-time position of Fleet Supervisor. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Works/Operations, the incumbent is responsible for leading and directing the repair and maintenance of Public Works vehicles, machines, motorized equipment and radio equipment.
Work Schedule (40-hours per week): Monday-Thursday, 6:30am-3:30pm; Fridays 6:30am-12:30pm

- Plan, direct, and organize the work of the Fleet Division within the DPW, overseeing daily operations including the scheduling, assigning, and supervision of the repair and maintenance of municipal vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect work, maintain records and manage electronic vehicle management software platforms.
- Oversee safety inspections and registration process of all municipal vehicles and motorized equipment.
- Manage fleet and equipment parts inventory, Town’s fleet/fuel management system, GPS software and the Town’s electric vehicle charging systems.
- Plan and prepare division budget, cost tracking, procurement efforts and related activities.
- Prepare reports and records to include costs of labor and parts, vehicle accident reports and insurance requirements, activity reports, damage estimates, diesel, and gas and oil consumption records utilizing electronic fuel tracking system;
- Mandatory participation in the town’s Snow & Ice program.
Any equivalent combination of the below-listed education, training, certification, and experience, is qualifying:
- Extensive technical or specialized training such as that which would be acquired by an Associate’s Degree or two years of technical or business school.
- Seven to ten years of related experience.
- Working knowledge on a diverse range of automotive, heavy trucks, and related equipment.
- Ability to assign and supervise the work of others; effectively communicating and coordinating with peers, vendors, and customers.
- Knowledge of fleet terminologies, best practices, and computer systems related to service and inventory management.
- Valid motor vehicle driver license.
Preferred, or ability to Obtain:
- CDL Class B
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification series C1 and P1 within 12 months of hire.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification series T8 within 24 months of hire.
