Job Description

The Senior Accountant will be a key partner to the Controller, taking ownership of core general ledger, close, inventory, costing, and financial reporting activities. This role combines technical accounting with practical manufacturing insight and process improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, support stronger internal controls, and help prepare the organization for a future transition from QuickBooks and paper-based workflows to an integrated ERP system.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support the Controller in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close; prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain the general ledger and help produce accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting.
  • Own or support inventory accounting, cycle-count reconciliations, standard costing, job costing, work-in-process accounting, and related variance analysis.
  • Partner with plant and operations leaders to investigate cost, labor, material, scrap, overhead, and margin variances and improve financial visibility.
  • Prepare balance-sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly; maintain clear documentation and audit-ready workpapers.
  • Assist with cash reporting, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accounts payable and receivable oversight, and other recurring accounting processes.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and ad hoc financial analysis for the Controller and executive leadership.
  • Strengthen internal controls, standard operating procedures, approval workflows, and segregation of duties across accounting processes.
  • Assist external auditors and tax advisors by preparing schedules, responding to requests, and coordinating supporting documentation.
  • Help evaluate, clean, and standardize accounting data and processes in preparation for ERP selection and implementation; participate in testing, training, and adoption.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual work, improve reporting accuracy, and create repeatable processes across multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and review support to accounting staff as assigned, and serve as backup to the Controller on key accounting activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant responsibility for close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Manufacturing accounting experience with inventory, standard costing, job costing, or work-in-process accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal-control fundamentals.
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze large or imperfect data sets with accuracy.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, judgment, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with accounting, operations, and leadership while meeting deadlines in a hands-on environment.
Preferred Qualifications.
  • Steel fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or multi-site accounting experience.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and with an ERP implementation, conversion, or process redesign.
  • Experience in a privately held or family-owned business.
  • Experience coaching or reviewing the work of junior accounting team members.
