THE DEPARTMENT
The following teams make up the Technology department: Business Analysis and Quality Assurance, Applications Development, Applications Support, and Engineering. The group identifies and develops technological strategies that support GVI’s business goals and objectives to ensure internal and external partners are provided with stable systems. These include: all desktop, network, phone and email systems, applications (reservations and operations systems), websites, and Internet access.
THE ROLE OF A DIRECTOR
The director supervises and leads a group of managers and associates in a particular area of an organization. Directors help set where and when; guiding others on what and why. Directors are responsible for the ‘how’ in implementation.
Job responsibilities of a director include:
- Direct management or direct reports in deployment of company strategy, goals & mission
- Evaluating associates periodically for promotions and career opportunities, approving ratings
- Supervising managers during certain projects
- Developing and implementing policies for executives to review
- Reporting to senior-level leadership such as a Senior Director or VP
- Planning, directing and coordinating department strategic efforts and day-to-day processes, including assigning tasks and giving direction to subordinates
- Understanding and creating department budgets for upper management
- Evaluating and developing strategies and plans for departmental success
- Ensuring a healthy work environment and lead the culture for their associates and managers
- May interact with global offices
- Approve hiring and termination requests
- Collaborating with other business leaders and teams on cross functional strategic projects and developing departmental plans that support such projects
- Project management of the various projects within their department
- Relationship point of contact for vendors and other external stakeholders that impact their departments
- Synthesizes data and information to make recommendations to upper management on strategic or high-value initiatives
- Accountable for achievement of team/department’s goals
- Partners with senior management on broader departments people and succession strategy
THE POSITION/ROLE
The IT Director is responsible for the following essential job duties and responsibilities:
- Oversee all IT (Information Technology) functions in Globus Family of companies.
- Direct IT Managers and manage the company’s technology operations and the implementation of new IT systems and policies including designing, developing, and managing the technological infrastructure, and building relationships with vendors.
- Plan and develop IT policies to support strategies set by management
- Make purchases and draft budgets for these changes
- Analyze the requirements of other departments and implement technology where they see fit while doing industry research and advocating for additional resources to implement new technology
- Identify when technology upgrades are needed and optimize systems when possible
- Monitor equipment and software to ensure optimal performance and make or request repairs as required
- Other responsibilities include hiring and managing top quality staff
- Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events. Role may also require some travel
EDUCATION
BSc/BA in computer science, engineering or relevant field; MSc/MA will be a plus or extensive (10 or more years) IT management experience may be substituted for a degree.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Strong leadership skills which includes leading a team, making decisions and resolving problems expeditiously and with the business in mind
- Ability to drive strategic direction
- Technical expertise including debugging and design expertise
- Business Applications and Software: In-depth understanding of various types of business applications, such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management), and other industry-specific applications.
- Information Technology: Strong knowledge of IT principles, infrastructure, and systems, including database management, software development methodologies, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and integration technologies.
- Project Management: Proficiency in project management methodologies to oversee application implementation, upgrades, and maintenance projects. Knowledge of project planning, risk management, and resource allocation.
- Data Management and Analytics: Understanding of data management concepts, data governance, and the use of data analytics to drive business insights and data-driven decision-making.
- Emerging Technologies: Awareness of emerging technologies relevant to business applications, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotic process automation, and blockchain.
- Regulatory Compliance and Security: Knowledge of data privacy laws, industry regulations, and best practices related to application security, data protection, and compliance.
- Budgeting and Financial Management: Familiarity with financial management principles to develop and manage the budget for the department.
