About This Position

Medical Director Anesthesia Services

Holyoke Medical Center is searching for a Medical Director of Anesthesia Services. In this position, the physician will function as a staff anesthesiologist and share the duties and responsibilities of that position in addition to the responsibilities of Medical Director, including second call only responsibilities:

Medical Director Responsibilities

1.To assist with strategic planning for the Anesthesia Service at Holyoke Medical Center. Assistance will include participation in planning sessions with the COO and CMO relative to equipment recommendations, pharmaceuticals, staffing needs.
2. To plan agenda and run the Anesthesia Committee meeting each month.
3. To work in conjunction with Services COO and CMO to oversee all of Anesthesia services.
4. To monitor the Anesthesiologists’ and CRNAs’ quality of care through OPPE, trending opportunities for improvement, and helping to design an FPPE as needed.
5. To ensure that internal processes in Anesthesia Services and activities that affect patient outcomes are continuously and systematically assessed and improved.
6. To cooperate with and maintain proper liaison with surgeons and other physicians in the greater Holyoke community relative to Anesthesia services for purposes of ensuring quality patient care, developing referrals to the Service, and marketing the Services.
7. To plan, develop, and provide in-service and other education programs for staff at the Medical Center relative to the delivery of safe and effective to Anesthesia care.
8. To participate in the investigation, documentation, and resolution of issues regarding the Anesthesia Department; report promptly all such events and outcomes to the CMO.
9. To work with the Human Resource Department in the following areas: recruitment of anesthesiologists and CRNA’s; this may include; interviewing, checking references and helping with credentialing.
10. To oversee operational policies, procedures and protocols for the anesthesia service to ensure the delivery of quality patient care; recommend changes to existing procedures, protocols, and practices for the anesthesia service.
11. To participate in patient education forums with various media sources, as requested by the Public Relations or Community Education Departments.
12. To ensure that the Anesthesia services complies with standards of the Mass Department of Public Health and the DNV and other regulatory bodies that are relevant.
13. To provide medical direction in a manner that ensures patient and physician satisfaction with the anesthesia service.
14. To assist with the preparation of the annual budget for the Anesthesia Service and work with the COO and CMO to develop capital budget and operating budget for the perioperative services.
15. To coordinate with the Chief of Surgery,Perioperative Service Nurse Manager, and Short Stay/PACU Nurse Manager to coordinate overlapping services in the operating room.
16. To coordinate all matters regarding legal issues, malpractice insurance, anesthesia billing, and payroll pertaining to the Anesthesia Department.
17. To serve on Medical the Executive Committee the PCAC , and the OR Governance Committee.
18. To maintain accurate, pertinent, thorough, and legible documentation.
19. To assist and support credentialing of providers. 20. To ensure that practices support the institutions appropriately ability to bill for services and products.

Qualification & Job Requisites:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of medicine; completion of a residency program in anesthesia at a U. S. Hospital
Licenses/Registrations: Current license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; current DEA license and
Massachusetts DPH controlled substance registration; Board certified anesthesiology

Experience: Five years experience in delivery of patient care in anesthesiology
