About This Position

Job Overview

The Financial Empowerment Counselor is at YWCA Southeast Wisconsin (YWCASEW) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive financial education and coaching to individuals of all ages and families in the Greater Milwaukee area, including Clarke Square, Lindsay Heights, and Layton Boulevard. The counselor will empower participants to make informed decisions by helping them develop financial skills, set goals, create budgets, manage debt, build wealth, and promote financial awareness through the Personal Financial Management (PFM) program activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Financial Education & Workshop Facilitation

o Plan and facilitate 60+ annual hybrid workshops for youth and adults on topics such as budging, saving, credit management, debt reduction, and wealth building.

o Use culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches to engage learners with varying financial knowledge levels.

o Collaborate with community partners and YWCA program teams to identify workshop sites and promote participation.

· Individual Financial Coaching

o Provide personalized one-on-one financial coaching to at least 50 participants per year.

o Assist participants with setting financial goals, creating action plans, improving credit, and managing debt.

o Monitor participant progress, conduct follow-ups, and maintain detailed coaching records.

· Matched Savings Program Support

o Identify and screen eligible participants for the matched savings support, conduct orientations, and set personal savings goals.

o Track participant progress, verify account activity and savings milestones, and coordinate with YWCA finance to process matching funds.

o Monitor program targets by neighborhood to ensure equitable participation from Clark Square, Lindsay Heights, Layton Boulevard, and Milwaukee at large.

· Program Events & Campaigns

o Coordinate two annual financial literacy summits, including outreach, logistics, speakers, and marketing.

o Develop content and lead engagement efforts for social media campaigns during Financial Literacy Month and Global Money Week.

o Collaborate with other organizations and community partners to promote program events and campaigns.

· Continuous Monitoring & Evaluation

o Administer pre/post assessments and satisfaction surveys to track knowledge gaps and participant satisfaction.

o Support evaluation efforts such as interviews, feedback sessions, and digital engagement tracking.

o Work with leadership to review findings and adjust programming as needed.

· Documentation & Reporting

o Prepare and submit timely monthly and quarterly internal reports summarizing workshop attendance, coaching progress, and matched savings activity.

o Support the completion of funder-specific reports, including participant outcomes, demographic data, and program milestones, in collaboration with leadership.

o Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

· High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

· Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in financial coaching, counseling, education, or a related area required.

· Strong knowledge of personal finance principles and practices; Certified Financial Education Instructor preferred.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with data management systems a plus.

· Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Bilingual skills (preferred but not required).

Work Environment

· Requires travel within Milwaukee, including to community sites, partner locations, and occasional evening or weekend events.
