This Job Description is established by the South Adams County Fire Protection District ("District") to outline the basic requirements, duties, and general responsibilities of the Accreditation Specialist, and is written to complement the District's Administrative Procedures and Standard Operating Guidelines.

Position Summary:
Accreditation Specialist supports, develops and assists in the coordination of the ongoing collection, maintenance, and organization of documents related to compliance with accreditation standards.This role includes managing document control processes such as the creation, approval, distribution, and secure archiving of records. The Accreditation Specialist works closely with an organizational assessment team, manages projects, conducts research, gathers and analyzes data, and provides insight to support decision-making. Responsibilities include designing audit programs and maintaining detailed reports and documentation for compliance purposes while ensuring accessibility and integrity.
In addition to document and accreditation duties, the Accreditation Specialist fosters strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contributes to department wellness programs. This involves providing nutritional education and support to enhance firefighter health, performance, and overall wellness, contributing to the department's readiness and effectiveness. Services include medical nutrition therapy, dietary plan creation, exercise recommendations, and general nutritional counseling.
This summary integrates document management with broader responsibilities, highlighting the Accreditation Specialist’s comprehensive role in compliance, wellness, and data organization.
The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Accreditation Specialist and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.
1. Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the District's rules, policies, and procedures, as they pertain to the Fire Department specifically and the District generally, including but not limited to the rules, policies, and procedures contained in the District's Policy Manual, Standard Operating Guidelines, and Collective Bargaining Agreement, Community Risk Assessment, Standard of Cover, Strategic Plan, and Self-Assessment Manual, consistently and appropriately enforce the District's rules, policies and procedures.
2. Conduct research on best practices by:
4. Prepare and maintain appropriate reports (i.e. compliance) and files with department data.
5. Develop and maintain a database of documents that demonstrate conformity to accreditation standards and measures.
6. Conduct accreditation meeting with internal and external stakeholders and coordinate accreditation site visits with accreditation agency surveyors; promote and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and liaise with federal, provincial and municipal officials as required.
7. Writing grants, research, selection and application of appropriate grants with an advanced degree of proficiency.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
9. Develop and maintain positive, effective working relationships with District employees, volunteers, reserves, residents, other governmental agencies, and the community.
10. Always maintain positive and constructive written and oral communication skills.
11. Work well in a progressive, team-oriented environment.
12. Provide excellent service to the community and internal customers.
13. Have a positive attitude and be a self-starter.
14. Promote a positive, professional image of the District at all times.
15. Coordinates work with other internal fire department divisions.
1. Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. required; Associate's/Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or related field and a minimum of 5 (five) years' experience with advanced level writing, research and linguistic delivery is preferred.
2. Experience researching, selecting, writing and applying for grants applicable to the South Adams County Fire Protection District.
3. Possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable driving record.
4. Experience collecting data by identifying sources of information and designing surveys and collection methods.
5. Ability to write and prepare speeches, reports and articles by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
1. This position will involve sedentary, administrative work in an office environment.
2. This position requires ability to sit for extended periods, and frequent pushing, pulling, pinching, gripping, reaching overhead, reaching away from body, and repetitive motions. Standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, lifting 10 lbs. on a regular basis, and squatting also will be required as necessary to perform the duties of the position.
3. This position includes remote work arrangements, requiring a suitable office.
