Job Summary:

Nortex Cyber Solutions is seeking a Senior Reverse Engineer to lead complex hardware, firmware, and embedded systems analysis in support of mission-critical technical challenges. This role combines low-level software development with hands-on device analysis, from hardware interfaces and firmware through operating systems and application code.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Analyze embedded devices, firmware, and hardware-software interactions to understand system behavior and identify technical solutions.

· Develop, test, integrate, and troubleshoot low-level software and embedded applications using C/C++.

· Use reverse engineering and debugging tools, including Ghidra, IDA Pro, GDB, Binwalk, and Linux utilities.

· Interface with embedded hardware using JTAG, UART, SPI, and I2C; use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters for analysis.

· Extract and examine firmware, inspect PCBs and components, and document findings and technical recommendations.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile development environment to address complex mission challenges.

· Lead advanced hardware reverse engineering activities, including board-level analysis, chip-off extraction, side-channel analysis, and fault-injection methodologies.

· Analyze proprietary communication protocols and security mechanisms, including secure boot, trusted execution environments, and anti-tamper protections.

· Develop test beds and harnesses for fuzzing, emulation, and dynamic analysis.

· Translate customer requirements into technical approaches; mentor engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary efforts.

Skills

Required

· Experience extracting and analyzing firmware, troubleshooting hardware-software interactions, and using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.

· Experience with PCB analysis, component identification, and hardware teardown; familiarity with secure software development practices.

· Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating across technical teams.

· 7+ years of experience extracting and analyzing firmware from embedded devices.

· Experience with advanced hardware reverse engineering (component identification, board-level analysis, chip-off extraction, side-channel analysis, and fault injection).

· Experience reversing device communication protocols, data formats, and proprietary command structures.

· Experience with secure boot, trusted execution environments, and anti-tamper protections.

· Experience developing test beds and harnesses for fuzzing, emulation, and dynamic analysis.

· Experience leading and mentoring cross-functional technical teams and translating client requirements into technical solutions.

· Active Secret security clearance.

Preferred

· Experience developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks for embedded systems.

· Experience identifying, exploiting, or mitigating vulnerabilities in embedded devices, firmware, or hardware platforms.

· Familiarity with RF-enabled devices and software-defined radios (SDRs).

· Familiarity with FPGA-based systems and development or reverse engineering of FPGA-enabled solutions.

· Experience using X-ray imaging to analyze multilayer PCBs.

· Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

· Active TS/SCI clearance

Education & Experience

Required

· 7+ years of experience in each of the following areas: software development and testing; C/C++ programming; embedded systems and RTOS; reverse engineering tools; command-line debugging tools; embedded software integration; and hardware interfaces (JTAG, UART, SPI, I2C).

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; alternatively, 9+ years of relevant embedded systems experience in lieu of a degree.

· U.S. citizenship required due to government security clearance requirements.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer.

· Frequent use of computers, keyboards, and other standard office equipment.

· Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders in person and through electronic communication.

· Ability to occasionally move or transport office equipment and materials weighing up to 15 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

· Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

· Willingness and ability to travel as required, including travel to Maryland and potentially other locations to support testing events and mission requirements.
