Job Description
SUMMARY
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead serves as a working leader responsible for performing advanced diagnostics and repairs while guiding daily activities of the maintenance team. This role supports the Supervisor by ensuring repairs are completed efficiently, preventative maintenance is executed, and equipment downtime is minimized

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to:
- Follows all safety policies and procedures established by the Company.
- Acts as the lead technician on shift, providing direction and support to mechanics
- Performs advanced diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Maintains and repair heavy equipment including loaders, forklifts, excavators, cranes, and trucks
- Assists in planning and prioritizing daily maintenance and repair schedules
- Ensures preventative maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on time
- Troubleshoots complex mechanical issues and provide solutions to reduce repeat failures
- Supports training and development of junior mechanics and new hires
- Ensures adherence to safety standards, company policies, and OSHA regulations
- Completes and review work orders, service logs, and maintenance documentation
- Coordinates with parts/vendors to ensure timely availability of materials
- Communicates equipment status and repair updates to Supervisor and Operations
QUALIFICATIONS

- 4+ years of heavy equipment mechanic experience (diesel required
- Prior lead or informal leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, and diagnostics
- Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and technical documents
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs and CMMS systems
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred
EXPERIENCE
- At least two (2) years of experience leading a team of HE mechanics
- 10+ years of heavy equipment mechanic experience (diesel required)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, team members, customers, vendors, and the public. Must be able to speak with employees, other department managers and senior management.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must have excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have reliable transportation with current TX driver’s license and proof of current personal automobile liability insurance.
