Description:

W-Industries is immediately seeking an Application Engineer Manager with 10+ years of estimating management experience, preferably in the Electrical Equipment manufacturing market to join our electrical manufacturing team located in NW Houston. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years’ experience in managing engineering and/or estimating teams, engineering solutions, and developing estimates for the Oil & Gas, datacenter, critical power, and/or utility markets.

Requirements:
  • Advise customers on solutions to meet their electrical needs. This includes designing and advising on best alternatives between competing equipment solutions and how to best meet the needs of the project.
  • Inform the commercial strategy to secure individual projects including developing preliminary execution plans, project schedules, determining pricing based on individual customer needs and competitive landscape.
  • Coordinates between the commercial, operations, project management, and engineering teams to align pursuits with overall commercial goals and support capacity planning.
  • Support the application engineering team on proposal development and selection of most optimal solution(s).
  • Review technical and commercial proposals for adherence to bid documentation, applicable clarifications or exceptions, and general commercial terms.
  • Evaluates and provides training opportunities and coaching to the application engineering team for continuous career development.
  • Work with the product development team (R&D) in the creation of new product lines and solutions to meet market needs
  • Work with and develop new vendors to get quotes to be incorporated into turn-key solutions.
  • Encourage the team to innovate the proposal generation process using technology to increase speed, accuracy and clean handover to Engineering.
  • Lead the analysis and implementation of execution feedback to improve proposals and full cycle customer experience

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of tools and principles developing proposals, electrical plans/specification, and drawings packages.
  • Understanding of commercial and business terms including margin composition, cash flow implication of payment terms, and identification and mitigation of risks (commercial or otherwise).
  • Experience with contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendum's, specifications and change orders.
  • Thorough knowledge of power distribution with familiarity in materials, components and construction methods.
  • Knowledge of standards and codes like NEC, IBC, ANSI, IEEE, OSHA, NFPA, PIP, and IEC related with power distribution equipment, E-houses, Local Electrical Rooms, Control Rooms.
  • Knowledge of estimating principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of suppliers and supplier databases applicable to project specifications.

Minimum Experience Required

  • Electrical engineering and/or estimating for manufactured products is a must.
  • 10+ years minimum experience estimating projects for the Oil & Gas, datacenter, or critical power industries is preferable.
  • Experience in manufacturing settings

Preferred Education & Certifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing teams. Setting goals, providing guidance, and developing personnel
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Industrial, mechanical engineering, or similar.
  • Master’s in business administration
  • Familiar with Eaton, ABB, AB, Siemens & GE industrial products.
  • Proficiency with electrical products designs and circuits.
  • High Competence in power systems application.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
