The Field Service Engineer position at Trotec Laser requires frequent travel within the US to provide onsite repairs, installation, and technical training to customers. The technician will also provide technical support via phone, email, and other electronic communication.
Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service and interact with customers clearly and professionally.
- Use visual clues, computer programs, and diagnostic tools to diagnose machine difficulties.
- Use electrical and electronic knowledge to troubleshoot and solve issues.
- Interface with cross-functional work teams such as applications, sales, and customer service.
- Submit organized and well-documented service reports for each repair.
- Help to develop or adjust existing technical documentation.
- Work as required with minimal supervision in compliance with all safety requirements.
- Must be able to lift 70 pounds without aid.
- Diagnose system problems and correct or advise on operational or repair issues via onsite visit, email, phone, and other electronic communication in a timely and professional manner.
- Ability to perform at a high level during difficult high-pressure situations.
- Provide operational, applications, and maintenance training to customers.
- Install and configure hardware and software upgrades.
- Ability to create designs and graphics in CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of laser systems CO2 and/or fiber
- Proficient in one or more graphic design and/or Cad/Cam software packages such as Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, Alpha CAM, Master CAM or similar
- Able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
- Able to promptly answer support-related email and phone calls
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
- Salesforce experience is a plus
Electrical basics: -
There will be an onsite skills assessment prior to offer of employment. If candidate does not possess all but most, then training may be provided at hire.
Core Knowledge Areas
- Understanding of electrical principles, including current, voltage, resistance, and related concepts
- Differences between direct current (DC), alternating current (AC), and proper grounding practices
- Familiarity with low‑voltage systems
- Electrical safety standards and safe work practices
- Basic power‑supply operation
- Identification and function of common electrical components (switches, resistors, fuses, relays)
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams
- Proficiency in electrical measurement techniques
- Measuring low‑voltage circuits
- Measuring AC and DC signals
- Testing resistors, fuses, relays, and switches
- Verifying power‑supply input and output voltages
Experience/Education:
- Associate's program or technical school degree in Engineering principles or a suitable combination of education and work experience.
- Experience in computer software, file management, electronics, digital circuits, wiring, and mechanics is helpful.
- Well-mannered, able to work with all different types of customers.
- Must have and maintain a clean and valid driver's license and record.
