Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Health + Home (IH+H) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children's and family programs. IH+H currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
Job Description
The Director of Marketing and Communications will play a key role in elevating the organization's
visibility, expanding community engagement, and supporting philanthropic growth.
The Director of Marketing and Communications will develop and implement comprehensive
marketing and communications strategies that strengthen brand awareness and position Illumination
Health + Home as a leader in providing housing and healthcare for individuals experiencing
homelessness. This role oversees brand management, internal and external communications, digital
and social media strategy, website management, storytelling, content development, marketing
campaigns, and event marketing.
The Director will lead the marketing and communications team and work closely with the Chief
Development Officer to generate donor interest, amplify the organization's impact, and ensure
consistent, compelling messaging that reflects the mission and growth of Illumination Health + Home.
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 per year, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
Executive Partnership & Strategic Leadership- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and Chief Development Officer on organizationalpositioning, visibility, and growth.
- Translate organizational strategy into clear, compelling marketing and communications initiatives that support fundraising, partnerships, and expansion.
- Identify opportunities to elevate Illumination Health + Home's presence locally, regionally, and nationally.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align marketing strategies with the organization's mission, vision, and growth goals.
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that strengthen brand awareness and support donor engagement.
- Steward and ensure consistent use of Illumination Health + Home branding across all platforms and materials.
- Oversee development of marketing materials, organizational collateral, impact storytelling, and campaign messaging.
- Plan and implement marketing campaigns, event marketing strategies, and special initiatives that elevate the organization's visibility
- Partner with the Chief Development Officer to support donor acquisition, retention, and stewardship through strategic communications and storytelling.
- Develop marketing strategies for fundraising campaigns, donor initiatives, and special events.
- Contribute to donor engagement strategies including donor acknowledgment, communication, and retention initiatives.
- Support marketing efforts for major organizational events and fundraising initiatives.
- Oversee website management, email marketing, social media strategy, and digital outreach efforts.
- Lead content development including editorial calendars, storytelling, impact reports, newsletters, and marketing collateral.
- Manage public relations efforts including media outreach, press releases, and thought leadership opportunities.
- Develop and manage internal communications including organizational newsletters, internal updates, and town hall materials.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the marketing and communications team while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Manage external vendors including designers, printers, photographers, videographers, and consultants.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Development, Finance, Operations, and program leadership to support organization-wide initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPls) to evaluate marketing effectiveness and audience engagement.
- Use analytics and data insights to refine marketing strategies and improve performance across channels.
- Manage the marketing and communications budget and resources efficiently.
- Stay informed of marketing trends, donor engagement strategies, and sector best practices to continuously improve marketing efforts.
- Maintain marketing systems and tools including the website, employee portal, digital platforms, and CRM systems such as Bloomerang.
Preferred Experience/Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in marketing and communications.
- Experience working closely with executive leadership.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic marketing initiatives.
- Successful track record in senior marketing role and campaign creation
- Strong storytelling, writing, and messaging skills.
- Experience managing staff and external partners.
- Nonprofit, healthcare, or social impact experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with HTML, content management systems, and design software
- CRM experience is very helpful
- Valid driver's license required
- Advanced computer skills including the ability to prepare complex correspondence and
reports in Microsoft Word and summarize and report data in Excel spreadsheets.
