Centers for Family Development, Inc. (CFDI), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, is a 501©3 organization, founded in 1978 by the Detroit chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers. Our youth-focused and family-centered organization provides services in Detroit/Wayne County.

CFDI is a CARF-accredited, licensed, comprehensive human services organization committed to serving all persons while specializing in evidence-based counseling, treatment, and advocacy for persons of color. Agency programming includes early childhood resources and literacy development, a 3-tiered juvenile justice service array, mental health prevention and treatment, substance use disorder prevention and treatment, boys and young men of color supportive resources, school-based intervention, and trauma-informed care. Most importantly, our staff are heroes who strive to match passion for service with equal parts best practice to partner with families to achieve their goals.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The 2nd Chance Reentry Coach is responsible for acting as a support and resource for youth and families when youth return home from detention, jail, or residential treatment. As a key member of the CMO team, the Reentry Coach will work with youth one on one, with families or with youth in a group setting to provide support through empowering skill development to improve their overall functioning and quality of life.

Requirements:

Facilitation of pre and post-release meetings with youth and families that focus on the following areas:

  • Educational goal development, planning, and achievement
  • Workforce development goal development, planning, and achievement
  • Restorative Practices training and skill building
  • Community Reintegration supports and services.
  • Family Reunification goal development, planning, and achievement
  • Basic Needs
  • Work collaboratively with the CMO Team, community stakeholders, contractual partners, etc. to develop and implement the Reentry Curriculum.
  • Complete and maintain accurate, timely, required documentation.
  • Attend staff meetings, supervision, coaching, and training as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES

Lived experience as someone who was justice-involved or as a family member of someone justice-involved.

Must be able to be trained in an approved curriculum and on-going training model.

Strong commitment to system improvement and youth, parent, professional, and community partnerships.

Ability to demonstrate a high value for professionalism, confidentiality, accountability, accuracy and reliability.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer, data entry and email familiarity.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strength-based approach to care.
  • Ability to access and identify Community Resources.

QUALIFICATIONS

Individual with a High School Diploma or GED who is willing and able to self-identify as a person with lived experience being justice involved (or have a family member who have been justice involved) and is prepared to use that experience in helping youth that have been detained or incarcerated. Experience with other child-serving organizations (MDHHS, Court, School) preferred. Possess a valid Driver’s License and Reliable transportation in order to perform job activities.
