Description

1. Maintain campus lawns.
2. Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, hedges, annual flower beds, and planters by pruning and trimming.
3. Remove litter, sand, dirt, and debris from assigned area.
4. Operate and/or utilize truck mounted plow, sidewalk plow, shovel, and/or ice scraper, chemical melt, or sand to remove snow/ice.
5. Inspect, repair, install, and perform routine maintenance of playground equipment/areas.
6. Operate computerized irrigation controller and repair irrigation system as needed.

Examples of Duties

Maintain campus lawns, to include: - 75%
  • Mow, edge, trim, irrigate, and fertilize campus lawns.
  • Prepare areas and sow seed and/or lay sod.
  • Operate and/or perform routine maintenance on lawn maintenance equipment, to include: walk behind mower, riding mowers of various types, push mower, string trimmer, edger, lawn sweeper, vericutter, and related equipment.
  • Apply insecticides, herbicides and fungicides to control disease, weeds, and insects.
  • Serve as Lead Worker of student employees assigned to the area.
  • Operate computerized irrigation controller and repair irrigation system as needed.

Operate and/or utilize truck mounted plow, sidewalk plow, shovel, and/or ice scraper, chemical melter, or sand. - 10%

Remove litter, sand, dirt and debris (including dead animals) from assigned area. - 5%

Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, hedges, annual flower beds, and planters by pruning and trimming. - 5%

Inspect playground equipment/area, to include: - 5%
  • Perform routine inspections of playground equipment/areas and maintain records.
  • Perform repairs and/or maintenance on area to ensure equipment and area remain safe.
  • Install equipment for assigned playground area.


Typical Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience: Six (6) months experience in grounds maintenance, landscape/lawn maintenance, landscaping, or horticulture.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Student Employees, including Graduate Assistants - 1


Working Hours and Days:
Monday - Friday 7:00am- 3:30pm

Supplemental Information

Special Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of common horticultural/agricultural chemicals and their proper use.
  • Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and turf care.
  • Basic math and measuring skills to safely calculate and mix horticultural/agricultural chemicals and fertilizers.
  • Ability to calibrate spray equipment and fertilizer application equipment.
Physical/Environmental Factors:
  • Lifting (Weight) - 50lbs
  • Exposure to Horticultural/Agricultural Chemicals


Special Instructions:

Full-time staff & 12-month faculty benefits-eligible position: Benefits include competitive salary; health, dental, vision, life insurance, AD & D, long-term disability; 3 weeks paid vacation per year; 3 weeks of accrued sick leave per year; 13 paid holidays; retirement; and generous education assistance for an employee, spouse and dependent children taking classes at UCM.

9-month faculty benefits-eligible position: Benefits include competitive salary; health, dental, vision, life insurance, AD & D, long-term disability; 3 weeks of accrued sick leave per year; 13 paid holidays; retirement; and generous education assistance for an employee, spouse and dependent children taking classes at UCM.

Part-time benefits-eligible positions: Benefits include generous education assistance for the employee.

Temporary, adjunct, student employment, or graduate assistant positions: Benefits are not included.
