About This Position
The Alamo is looking for a DIGITIZATION PROJECT ARCHIVIST to join the team!
Full or part-time position, through December 2025.
POSITION SCOPE
The Digitization Project Archivist will be the lead Archivist for a grant-funded digitization project funded through 2025. The Archivist will be responsible for scanning and photographing documents, artworks, and 3D objects from collections Held-in-Trust by Alamo Trust, Inc., manage associated digital files, reference files, and metadata, assist in identifying artifacts for conservation, and assist in the creation of a public-facing collections website. This position will require experience digitizing rare materials, knowledge of handling and preservation best practices, and an ability to create an organized, robust, and thorough repository of digital assets.
This is an exciting time to join the Collections, Curation, Conservation, and Archaeology team, which is rapidly growing in line with the Alamos ambitious future plan. An entirely new museum will open in 2027, and in support, there will be significant collections development. The Digitization Project Archivist will direct the incorporation of digitization into Collections Department workflows and be an important leader in the conservation of the collection and in making the collection more accessible to the public through digital programming and a collections website. Throughout the course of the grant, opportunities may arise for the Digitization Project Archivist to hire interns to assist with scanning, photography, and cataloging.
The collection itself is currently relatively small and rapidly growing, comprising in the region of 4,000 artifacts, art works, and documents. It will be the Digitization Project Archivists job to develop a system and setting standards for digitizing the collection and managing associated digital assets.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with Collections and Curatorial staff, develop standards and practices for digitizing manuscript, art, and 3D object collections.
In collaboration with Collections and Curatorial staff, develop a schedule for digitizing the Alamo Trust permanent collection.
Scan and photograph collections items.
Edit images as needed.
Attach images to item record in the Alamo Trusts CMS.
Manage images in the Alamo Trusts DAMS and integrate DAM records with CMS records.
Prepare images for both internal and external use.
Manage rights and reproductions for images of digitized item
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited program, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 1 to 2 years experience in digital archives, preferrable at a cultural heritage institution.
Experience with collections management systems, digital asset management systems, and photo editing software.
Experience handling rare materials and demonstrated knowledge of best archival and preservation practices.
Experience with licensing, rights, and reproductions.
Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and ability to coordinate across departments and projects.
