Job Description
The Service Repair Technician at BE&SCO Manufacturing is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining tortilla/flatbread equipment (including presses, grills, and ovens) and tamale equipment. This role involves technical service, electrical and mechanical diagnostics, and customer support, both on-site and remotely. The technician will play a critical role in ensuring equipment operates efficiently, providing training to customers, and upholding safety and quality standards.
This position requires strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The technician will interact with customers, vendors, and service partners to deliver exceptional service and technical expertise.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesEquipment Servicing & Repairs- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and dough-related issues on tortilla/flatbread equipment and tamale equipment.
- Perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of bakery equipment.
- Conduct on-site service calls, installations, and equipment start-ups for customers.
- Identify and resolve gas, pneumatic, and electrical system malfunctions.
- Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and company safety standards.
- Conduct testing, adjustments, and hook-ups for mechanical, electrical, and gas systems.
- Provide technical support to customers and service partners via phone, email, and in-person visits.
- Conduct training sessions on equipment operation, cleaning, troubleshooting, and maintenance—both virtually and in-house.
- Deliver excellent customer service by effectively communicating solutions and guidance.
- Document detailed service reports, repair estimates, and maintenance records.
- Assemble, disassemble, install, and rework electrical production components, control panels, wiring, and devices.
- Install and wire electrical fixtures, including switches, circuit breakers, motors, and panel boards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to ensure accurate assembly and servicing.
- Perform wiring, stripping, crimping, and soldering using hand/machine tools.
- Program, test, and calibrate temperature controllers, sensors, and electrical components using digital multimeters.
- Follow and enforce all safety protocols related to high-temperature equipment, electrical systems, and gas-powered machinery.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and NEC standards when wiring and operating equipment.
- Maintain organized workspaces, tools, and equipment to uphold safety and productivity.
- Complete required documentation accurately and promptly for service activities.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards or equipment malfunctions.
- Support research and development (R&D) teams with product testing and equipment optimization.
- Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager to support company operations.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical assembly, repair, or a related field.
- Bilingual in English & Spanish (read, write, and understand technical terminology).
- Strong understanding of AC/DC circuit theory, electrical controls, and mechanical systems.
- Proficient in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering blueprints.
- Experience troubleshooting temperature controllers, thermocouples, sensors, heaters, and gas systems.
- Ability to use OHM meters, digital multimeters, and other diagnostic tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP software (Salesforce experience preferred).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize work efficiently, and meet deadlines.
- Must pass an electrical knowledge test during the interview process.
- Experience servicing industrial kitchen, bakery, or food processing equipment.
- Familiarity with electronic control panel assembly and wiring.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and safety regulations.
- Previous field service technician experience or customer-facing technical support experience.
- Ability to perform skilled manual labor for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, sit, twist, bend, and work in confined spaces as required.
- Must be comfortable working in high-temperature environments around bakery equipment.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving fine motor skills and coordination.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly throughout the workday.
- Work is performed in both service shop and field service environments, including customer sites and manufacturing facilities.
- Conditions may vary, including hot, cold, and noisy environments.
- Exposure to flour, grease, and cleaning agents common in food processing equipment.
- Some travel may be required for on-site customer service and equipment repairs.
