About This Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Controller to join our growing team, a leading provider of oil and gas servicing. The Assistant Controller will be a key player in overseeing critical accounting functions including accounts payable, bank reconciliations, general ledger management, auditing, financial consolidations, and multi-state sales tax compliance. Additionally, the Assistant Controller will take on a leadership role in managing a small accounting team as well as assist the leadership team on ERP implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O.

This is a unique opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys both hands-on accounting and process improvement during a key technology transformation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting within the oil and gas industry, excellent knowledge of IFRS, and experience managing teams through system integrations.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Operations:

• Oversee and manage the accounts payable (AP) function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments.

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and manage cash flow to ensure accurate financial reporting.

• Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are properly recorded and in compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

• Support and assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.

• Lead the auditing process by working closely with internal auditors and external audit firms to ensure financial transparency and compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Manage the consolidation of financial statements across multiple entities, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with IFRS.

• Oversee multi-state sales tax compliance, including preparation, filing, and ensuring timely remittance of sales tax in all applicable states.

• ERP Implementation (Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O): Good to have but not needed

• Lead and manage a small accounting team during the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O.

• Assist with the migration of data from legacy systems to the new ERP platform, ensuring a seamless transition and minimal disruptions.

• Work with the project team to test the ERP system, identify potential issues, and provide solutions to ensure smooth integration of accounting processes.

• Provide training and support to accounting team members on the new ERP system functionalities and processes.

• Collaborate closely with IT, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure the new system aligns with the company's needs.

Team Management & Leadership:

• Manage and mentor a small team of accountants, ensuring they are properly trained and that tasks are completed accurately and on time.

• Provide performance feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and assist with the professional development of team members.

• Foster a positive and productive team environment that promotes collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably in the oil and gas industry.

• Strong knowledge of IFRS, including financial reporting, auditing, and tax compliance.

• Extensive experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O, or similar ERP systems (experience in ERP implementation preferred).

• Strong understanding of multi-state sales tax compliance and the ability to navigate complex tax regulations.

• Proven experience managing small teams and guiding them through process improvements or system implementations.

• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with various departments and external stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience working in the oil and gas servicing industry, with an understanding of industry-specific accounting practices.

• Familiarity with project management methodologies, especially in relation to ERP implementations.

• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office Suite tools.
