Job Title: Athletics Student Assistant

Job Location: ASB 5th Floor Gameday: Bell Gym, Exum Center, Alumni Stadium and State Stadium.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Athletic Communications and Digital Media
- Assist with the creation, scheduling and distribution of content for departmental social media platforms.
- Assist with updating team schedules, rosters, statistics, records, biographies and other information on the athletics website.
- Help develop graphics, promotional materials, game-day content and other digital media assets.
- Capture photographs and short-form video content during practices, games, community service activities and special events.
- Assist with writing or gathering information for game previews, recaps, press releases, student-athlete features and departmental announcements.
- Monitor athletic department social media accounts and identify opportunities to promote student-athletes, coaches, teams and departmental initiatives.
- Maintain organized digital files for photographs, videos, graphics, statistics and other departmental content.
- Assist with distributing final scores, statistics and other postgame information.
Game-Day Operations
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of athletic events, including signage, tables, equipment, credentials, promotional materials and media areas.
- Support press box, scorer’s table, ticketing, hospitality and venue operations.
- Assist with team, official, media and guest check-in procedures.
- Help distribute credentials, game programs, rosters, statistics and other event materials.
- Serve as a game-day runner between the press box, scorer’s table, locker rooms, ticketing areas and event administration.
- Assist with in-game promotions, public-address information, music, video board content and sponsor recognition.
- Help monitor entrances, seating areas, media locations and other designated operational areas.
- Assist with postgame cleanup, equipment storage and event documentation.
- Report operational concerns, safety issues or guest service problems to the appropriate athletics staff member.
Statistics and Broadcasting
- Assist with the preparation and operation of statistical and broadcast equipment.
- Help verify rosters, starting lineups, uniform numbers and game information before events.
- Assist statistical personnel with spotting, stat entry, score verification and distribution of statistical reports when properly trained.
- Support livestream and broadcast productions as a camera operator, production assistant, graphics operator or other assigned role.
- Assist with testing cameras, computers, headsets, internet connections, audio equipment and other production technology.
- Help prepare broadcast graphics, starting lineups, sponsor elements and other in-game content.
- Maintain a professional and quiet working environment in press box and broadcast areas.
- Assist with archiving broadcasts, game footage and statistical files following events.
Marketing, Promotions and Fan Engagement
- Assist with the implementation of athletic marketing and promotional plans.
- Help distribute posters, schedules, flyers and other promotional materials across campus and within the community.
- Assist with student engagement initiatives, theme nights, giveaways and in-game promotions.
- Support sponsor activation and ensure that required signage, announcements and digital elements are displayed correctly.
- Help organize promotional inventory and track the distribution of giveaway items.
- Assist with community outreach activities, campus events and student-athlete engagement initiatives.
- Represent the Department of Athletics at promotional tables, orientations, campus programs and community events.
Ticketing and Customer Service
- Assist with ticket scanning, ticket sales, will-call operations and guest entry procedures.
- Provide clear and professional assistance to spectators regarding tickets, seating, parking and venue policies.
- Help prepare ticketing materials, signs, scanners and entry stations before events.
- Assist with maintaining accurate attendance and ticketing records.
- Direct guests to appropriate entrances, seating sections and service areas.
- Escalate ticketing concerns, payment issues or guest complaints to the designated supervisor.
- Protect confidential customer and transaction information.
Administrative Support
- Assist with general office responsibilities, including data entry, filing, copying, scanning and organizing departmental records.
- Help maintain calendars, event schedules, contact lists, inventory records and operational checklists.
- Assist with researching opponents, vendors, media contacts, sponsors and other departmental needs.
- Help prepare meeting materials, event documents, reports and presentations.
- Assist with organizing credentials, contracts, invoices, purchase documentation and other records as directed.
- Maintain an organized and professional work area.
- Complete special projects assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director or other authorized athletics staff.
Qualification and Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
- Must be an enrolled student who meets the University’s eligibility requirements for the Federal Work-Study Program.
- Must demonstrate reliability, professionalism and attention to detail.
- Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Must be willing to work selected evenings, weekends and athletic events.
- Must be able to follow instructions and operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Must work ALL home games.
- Basic experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, social media platforms or digital technology is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in athletics administration, communications, marketing, journalism, broadcasting, photography, graphic design or event management.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, video editing software, statistical software or content management systems.
- Previous experience working athletic events or participating in student organizations.
- Knowledge of collegiate athletics and basic sports terminology.
- Ability to take photographs, record video or create digital content.
- Strong customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods.
- Ability to move event supplies and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor athletic venues in varying weather conditions.
- Availability may include regular office hours, evenings, weekends, holidays depending on the athletics schedule.
- Work-study hours may not exceed the student’s approved award or University-established weekly limits.
