Job Description

Director of Clinical Services

Location: Tampa, Florida

Organization: Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC)

About Tampa Family Health Centers

At Tampa Family Health Centers, healthcare is more than a service—it’s our mission. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide quality, caring, and accessible healthcare to a culturally diverse community across Hillsborough County. Our team thrives on innovation, compassion, and positive change.

Joining TFHC means becoming part of a mission-driven organization where leaders play a critical role in supporting patient care, staff success, and operational excellence.

Position Summary

Tampa Family Health Centers is seeking an experienced Director of Clinical Services to lead nursing and clinical support performance across an assigned region of health center locations.

Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Director of Clinical Services supervises site Nurse Managers and is accountable for regional results in four priority areas: appointment completion against budget, Vaccines for Children (VFC) and immunization compliance, pediatric operations, and medication and supply integrity. While site-level execution is delegated to Nurse Managers, accountability for outcomes remains with the Director of Clinical Services. This leader also sustains improvements following site improvement engagements and develops Nurse Manager succession so that no site depends on a single individual.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Uphold and consistently promote TFHC's mission, vision, and core values.
  • Supervise Nurse Managers within the assigned region, including orientation, mentorship, coaching, corrective action, and annual performance reviews in accordance with TFHC policy.
  • Provide RN-level clinical oversight and sign-off when required by the scope of the work.
  • Conduct scheduled visits at every assigned site, documenting observations, assigned actions, owners, and due dates.
  • Ensure adequate clinical staffing, publish coverage for the upcoming week, resolve regional coverage gaps, and serve as the first escalation point for operational issues.
  • Own regional appointment completion against budgeted appointments; review performance weekly by site, report results to the Director of Nursing, and present at the Business Accountability Meeting (BAM).
  • Tie reported figures to the appropriate system of record, including the CIR daily tracker, productivity dashboard, EHR reporting, and Florida SHOTS; explain variances with a cause, owner, corrective action, and completion date.
  • Attend productivity, Nurse Manager, Office Manager, and other meetings as directed; approve site BAM materials in advance and monitor patient flow, standards of care, and staff-to-provider ratios for cross-site trends.
  • Enforce VFC compliance across the region, including current vaccine inventory, uninterrupted daily temperature logs, timely reporting of excursions, completion of site VFC coordinator duties, and verification of immunization competencies.
  • Confirm that staff who administer or document immunizations maintain active, correctly configured Florida SHOTS accounts with VFC designation.
  • Own pediatric throughput and quality at each pediatric-service site, tracking performance by site against budget and separately from Family Practice.
  • Maintain medication and supply integrity and disciplined ordering practices so patient care is not delayed by medication or supply failures; ensure standing order sets are current and signed.
  • Participate in site assessments and improvement engagements and verify in writing at 30, 60, and 90 days after handoff that measured gains have been sustained.
  • Support Education & Training Center cohorts, verify that competencies are maintained in practice, and develop Nurse Manager succession with at least one documented successor candidate per site.
  • Maintain working knowledge of TFHC policies, FQHC operations, and HRSA, AAAHC, NCQA, CLIA, OSHA, and CDC standards; support audits, site visits, accreditation surveys, quality-improvement chart audits, root-cause analyses, and UDS documentation compliance.
  • Address escalated patient concerns; ensure incidents, exposures, and occupational injuries are reported the same day; and ensure adherence to HIPAA, safety, and OSHA protocols.
  • Provide direct nursing care when necessary, including medication administration, injections, triage assessment, and immunizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a nursing leadership or supervisory role (Nurse Manager or equivalent).
  • Multi-site supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Community health, ambulatory care, or FQHC experience preferred.
  • VFC program compliance experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards, including HRSA, AAAHC, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, and NCQA.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, accountability, and problem-solving skills across multiple locations.
  • Ability to present and defend regional performance results to executive leadership.
  • Ability to analyze operational and performance data, validate figures against source systems, and translate variances into corrective actions with clear ownership and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and collaborate effectively in an interdisciplinary, multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems, data analysis, and Microsoft Office.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel daily between assigned sites.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, twist, climb, reach, and lift or move up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Benefits & Rewards

TFHC offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth (for all eligible employees), including:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance

  • Life and Disability Insurance

  • Generous PTO and 7 paid company holidays

  • 401(k) program with employer contribution after one year
