Visualization and Digital Communication Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Visualization and Digital Communication Specialist based in Brazil.

This role offers the opportunity to turn complex conflict and risk data into compelling visual stories for a global audience.
You will create high-quality maps, graphs, and visualizations that communicate research findings clearly and accurately.
The position combines data visualization, geographic information systems, research, digital communication, and visual storytelling.
You will contribute to outputs spanning different regions and thematic areas while helping strengthen visual reporting standards.
Your work will support research teams, media engagement, external communications, and high-impact analytical publications.
You will also explore emerging visualization methods and technologies to continuously improve how complex information is presented.

Accountabilities
  • Produce original, accurate, and publication-ready visualizations of conflict patterns, research findings, themes, and analytical outputs.
  • Create high-quality maps, graphs, infographics, and other visual materials for use across different departments and regional outputs.
  • Transform complex datasets and analytical findings into clear, compelling visual narratives that are accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Contribute region-specific visualizations and thematic or global outputs in collaboration with regional experts and research teams.
  • Develop, refine, and maintain guidelines and best practices for data visualization and visual analysis.
  • Support the continued development of visual reporting approaches and strengthen consistency across the organization’s visual identity.
  • Research emerging data visualization methods, tools, and software to keep visual outputs innovative and aligned with current industry practices.
  • Contribute to Global Risk Center and external affairs outputs while coordinating closely with relevant research and communications teams.
  • Support responses to journalist and media inquiries by providing accurate and appropriately presented data visualizations and supporting information.
  • Verify that visualizations accurately represent underlying data, analytical findings, and accompanying summaries.
  • Support outreach and external engagement efforts involving media organizations, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in internal meetings and contribute to discussions concerning research outputs, communications, brand reputation, and audience reach.
  • Provide coordination, administrative, and communications support to management and contribute to ad hoc projects as required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Geography, Conflict Studies, or another discipline relevant to data visualization, research, and conflict analysis.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience working in a research environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with conflict analysis and the ability to interpret complex research and data in an accurate and meaningful way.
  • Proven experience using Tableau and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Experience working with conflict and event datasets is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of additional data analysis software, visualization platforms, programming languages, or related technical tools is a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality visual outputs.
  • Strong English-language proficiency, with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong writing and editing abilities are an advantage, particularly when translating analytical findings into clear narratives.
  • Ability to give, receive, and incorporate feedback constructively while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams while also managing responsibilities independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines across multiple projects and priorities.
  • Portfolio demonstrating relevant professional work is required, including at least four examples covering a data story and visualization, a map-based visualization, an AI-assisted data investigation and visualization, and a carousel, interactive timeline, or infographic.
