This is a senior, hands-on Android engineering role focused on the evolution of a sophisticated mobile chat experience.
You will serve as a technical reference, helping shape scalable, high-performance, secure, and accessible Android solutions.
The role combines software development with architectural decisions, Design System evolution, observability, CI/CD, and engineering standards.
You will work extensively with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, REST APIs, real-time communication, and modern Android practices.
Beyond coding, you will influence technical quality through code reviews, best-practice definition, and technical mentoring.
The environment values collaboration, curiosity, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to engineering excellence.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful technical impact while helping evolve a mobile product and its engineering practices.
- Define and continuously evolve technical standards and development practices for the Android frontend of the chat experience.
- Develop and maintain reusable visual components aligned with the Design System, ensuring consistency across colors, typography, spacing, and interaction patterns.
- Build responsive and dynamic interfaces using Jetpack Compose and develop Custom Views when advanced UI requirements demand them.
- Implement efficient communication between application components using StateFlow, SharedFlow, LiveData, and other appropriate state-management approaches.
- Integrate Android applications with REST APIs, including custom HTTP interceptors for authentication and headers, as well as Socket-based real-time communication.
- Contribute to scalable application architecture using patterns such as MVVM and Clean Architecture.
- Ensure mobile applications meet high standards for accessibility, security, observability, reliability, and performance.
- Lead and participate in thorough code reviews, identifying opportunities to improve architecture, maintainability, performance, and security.
- Design and maintain Android CI/CD pipelines supporting secure artifact signing, testing, release, and distribution.
- Manage application publication through Android App Bundles for both testing and production environments.
- Promote effective Git workflows and version-control practices, including conventional commits, cherry-picking, and squashing.
- Mentor other developers and contribute to the dissemination of technical knowledge through best practices, technical discussions, and potentially tech talks.
- Support the evolution of mobile engineering practices, Design Systems, release processes, and overall technical consistency.
- Advanced proficiency in Kotlin, including effective use of data classes, classes, enums, and modern language features.
- Strong experience with Jetpack Compose for building responsive, reusable, and customized Android interfaces.
- Advanced knowledge of the Android SDK, including Activity and Fragment lifecycles and effective use of LifecycleOwner and LifecycleObserver.
- Solid experience integrating Android applications with REST APIs and configuring HTTP interceptors.
- Practical experience implementing Socket connections and real-time communication.
- Strong understanding of MVVM, Clean Architecture, and Android Design Systems.
- Advanced knowledge of Coroutines and Flow, including StateFlow and SharedFlow for asynchronous state management.
- Experience creating and maintaining Android CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, or Bitrise.
- Experience with secure Android artifact signing, release management, and publication through Android App Bundles.
- Strong Git knowledge, including conventional commits, cherry-pick, squash, and collaborative version-control workflows.
- Experience implementing mobile accessibility practices, including TalkBack.
- Knowledge of mobile observability and fundamental mobile application security practices.
- Experience with automated testing for Android applications, including unit and instrumented tests, is highly valuable.
- Experience working with Feature Flags in large-scale mobile applications is a plus.
- Knowledge of WebView and hybrid-content integration is advantageous.
- Experience contributing to or evolving a product Design System is desirable.
- Strong technical communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to provide constructive code-review feedback and mentor other engineers.
- Ability to work independently, solve complex technical problems, and contribute proactively to architectural and engineering decisions.
- A continuous-learning mindset and genuine curiosity about emerging mobile technologies and engineering practices.
