JOB TITLE: Housing and Resource Navigator

REPORTS TO: Shelter Manager

STATUS: Non-Exempt/Full-time

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Housing & Resource Navigator is responsible for conducting guest intakes, assessing needs, and connecting individuals to housing opportunities and community-based resources. This role serves as a key bridge between shelter services and external support systems, helping guests identify pathways toward stability and self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Intake & Assessment

• Conduct initial intake interviews with new guests in a timely, respectful, and trauma-informed manner
• Gather and document relevant demographic, housing, and service information
• Assess immediate needs, risks, and eligibility for programs or services
• Maintain accurate and confidential client records

Housing Navigation

• Assist guests in identifying appropriate housing options
• Support guests with housing applications and documentation
• Coordinate with landlords and partner agencies
• Track housing placements and progress

Resource Coordination

• Connect guests to community resources
• Maintain knowledge of local services
• Advocate for guests navigating systems

Guest Support & Engagement

• Build professional relationships with guests
• Support goal-setting and follow-up

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work with staff to ensure coordinated care
• Maintain accurate documentation and participate in meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in human services or a related field
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
• Basic computer and documentation skills
• Valid driver’s license required to assist in transporting guests.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Experience working in a shelter, residential program, or similar environment
• Training in de-escalation, crisis response, or trauma-informed care

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:

• Fast-paced, dynamic shelter setting
• Frequent interaction with individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis
• Requires standing, walking, and active monitoring of the facility
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
